People have been criticising car safety developers for years for using crash test dummies based on the average male instead of testing safety features on smaller framed people as a worst case scenario factor. Do you think children or diminutive women or men have the same physical resilience to a crash as an average male?

@kevcvs57 saidYes, you are correct.

There are very significant differences in the male and female anatomies, and using dummies that better approximate the average female stands every chance of greatly improving the safety of vehicles for women.

Crash test dummies in adult, children, and toddler/baby size have been around forever.
What's the point of making them look like male or female?
@jj-adams saidIt's not about looks, you dope.

The dummies would be sized and proportioned like adult women for purposes of assessing damage inflicted on the female body in a crash. Right now "adult" dummies are proportioned exclusively to model adult males.

They DO make different size dummies.
Always have.
How would a female dummy be any different than the smaller size ones?

different bone density
this just off the top of my head, without even being an expert. I am surprised they didn't make female dummies until now.

@wildgrass saidfemale dummies shall not replace us!!!!!! (male dummies)
What a dum thing to get riled up about.
@zahlanzi saidI'm not, but only because for quite a while crash test dummies were basically rectangular blocks which didn't even resemble a male human body closely, let alone a female one.

By contrast, the CPR dummy has always been only, and will always be never anything but, female, because male drowning suicides are there for no other reason than to be mocked.

You, sir, are full of ka-KHAAAAaaa,,,,, as usual. 🙂
The dummies come in different sizes (click here to see some of the dummies), and they are referred to by percentile and gender. For example, the fiftieth-percentile male dummy represents the median sized male -- it is bigger than half the male population and smaller than the other half. This is the dummy most commonly used in crash testing. It weighs 170 lbs (77 kg) and is 70 inches (5 ft 10 inches or 1.78 m) tall.
