A Flat Earth International Conference was held 9-10 November 2017 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

    http://abcnews.go.com/US/inside-flat-earth-international-conference-believes-earth-round/story?id=52580041

"Inside Flat Earth International Conference, where everyone believes Earth isn't round"

"Many flat-Earthers, including [Mark] Sargent, believe that astronauts
are actually actors who are part of a larger conspiracy. "

"[Rob] Skiba believes the conspiracy is rooted in deeper religious implications."

"In his YouTube videos and podcasts, Skiba looks at clues from the
Bible in the book of Genesis. "It's describing a snow globe basically.
When you break down the text of what it represents, there's no way you
can get a spinning heliocentric globe out of anything in the Bible," he said."

Many, perhaps most, 'readers' here apparently prefer to trust YouTube videos,
podcasts, or blogs over established news sources or (even worse) academic books.
Given that, the number of 'Flat Earth' believers may increase.

Genesis does indeed describe the world like an underwater snow globe.

I wonder if flat-earthers accept that global warming is real.

What happens on a flat Earth when the sea levels rise?

As for Genesis. Never did like the band.
However, the bible was penned at a time when a great many people thought the mediterranian sea was the centre if the planet.
So, it stands to reason they thought of it as a snow globe.

D64 claims to have special troll identification powers, it's a term she let's fly on the message board here all the time, unfortunately she hasn't woken up to the fact that she and others have been trolled big time by the so called flat earthers, they're playing a master game and D64 hardly ranks amatuer .

Yep, that's right, there are a hundred ways of showing the earth is not flat, I admit there might a couple of true lunatic true believers but most of flat earth society are people trolling you.

It's funny you take it so seriously, the true joke is you folk acting all self righteous and superior when you're the fools.

That's pretty darn funny when you think about it....probably loses some of the humor though when you realise it's at your expense.

And then there's the rest of us, no doubt a majority, who really can't be bothered to give even half a damn.

If I thought you were correct, I’d feel properly duped on a global scale. And I would love it! Damn, that woulf be so classic, I’d have a fit of the damn-I’m-dumb giggles which would last a week.

Seriously. I love taking the pish and I don’t mind being on the receiving end (if you’re willing to dish it out, ya better be willing to take it).

But... I don’t see any form of irony in their communication.
It’s not like an opposite of the FSM.

Perhaps you can explain why they consider their opinions a joke on us (believe me dude... I hope it’s true).

    Why?
There's no consensus on the topic regardless of affiliations otherwise.

What happens on a flat Earth when the sea levels rise?
Same thing that happens when the sea levels fall: water levels change.

As for Genesis. Never did like the band.
Early, i.e., Peter Gabriel stuff was passable album stuff.
The pop of Phil Collins was all fluff.

However, the bible was penned at a time when a great many people thought the mediterranian sea was the centre if the planet.
Yeah, those barbarians were so backward, they somehow had a complex--- and accurate--- system of preventing the spread of infectious disease that took every one else thousands of years to finally 'discover' how germs work.
Oh, and they also had a full-blown philosophically-sound legal system.
I probably shouldn't forget their financial structure, either... the one upon which nearly all bankruptcy systems are based.

    Those nutty, nomadic barbarians!

I’ve had a wee look into your claim.

Wow! Those flat-Earthers are really a nutty bunch.

Yes. There seems to be groups of them which are joking. There are groups which are flatteningly serious. There’s infiltration into wach other’s groups. And the lot of them are so paranoid they don’t trust themselves, let alone folk in other groups.

What a bizarre bunch they are.

So, I think I can say you’re right on some fronts of the issue.
And I seriously suggest others dip their toes into the madness as well.

No, you won’t come away thinking the planet’a flat, but at least you’ll think the people on this forum are somewhat near normal.

Wajoma's a lying troll who often puts words into my mouth.

In fact, I have hardly bothered to dispute FreakyKBH's obstinate belief in a flat earth.
That dispute has been left to Sonhouse (who seemed obsessed by it) and others.

In fact, more than a few posters have revealed that their primary, if not their only sources, of
'facts' about many serious subjects are YouTube videos and other non-academic sources.
