Interesting story .. somewhere near the topic

................
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, very much in favor of the redistribution of wealth.

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly ex ...[text shortened]... ther slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the Republican Party"
I like it jammer, do we try to hobble people that can run faster or jump higher? People that are good at making money are an example to be aspired to...not punished, handicapped and vilified.

This story assumes that everyone starts at the same place, and that wealth is simply the product of more hardwork and intelligence. This can be the case, but most of the time it definitely is not.
"Most of the time"
A very convincing number indeed.

Nice story but it doesn't really relate to the flat tax debate- more republican propaganda- getting in opposition to liberal intellectuals and creating selfish fear about redistribution.

What the father says deosn't make sense anyway- its not as if higher taxes on him would leave him earning as much as someone unemployed!
Hell, let's just take all his money! He's smart enough to make some more.

So people who are smart get rich, those not that intelligent starve.
Bit of a social darwinist streak coming through there.
If you continue to take, how long do you think people will continue to give? My family has downsized from a combined income of over 150k to less than 50k in order to avoid supporting the increasingly socialist leanings of the U.S. government. Thanks for the incentive.πŸ˜‰

A good idea or not? Let's hear it from our resident economists...
People who live in flats, while an inconvenient and not too altogether desirable state of affairs for some, should not be seen as a reasonable justification for tax exempt status.

You don't know what socilaist is. I'ma socialist, and I can tell you now the US government's economic policies aren't socialist.

In fact, I'm deeply, deeply offended!

Read my post. I said the U.S. is headed that way.

I am deeply offended that socialists feel compelled to force me to support my brother.

I'm guessing that your money is in a bank, rather than on your property- therefore a government could take it... like that.
Your guns can't protect against the threat of high taxes!

Run away! πŸ˜€πŸ˜²

Do you honestly believe that all people start with the same opportunities in life?

It doesn't matter what hurdles life sets before you, you can choose to make it a heaven or a hell. As proof, I challenge any of you to go into any library and peruse the section called "biographies." It has hundreds, if not thousands of stories about people with circumstances far worse than you or I, yet these people managed to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and go on to do great and/or courageious things without complaint.

Why is it fair that those people are forced to work far harder than people better off than themselves, just in order to end up having the same quality of life? You telling me a kid born in a poor country, who starve to death before even living to 1, do they have the same chances as the son of George Hebert Walker Bush. I think not.

Your neo-con ignorance is deeply disturbing.

God, listen to you. You'd think 40% tax on someone earning a half million a year is sending them to the poor house! They're still rich - but their taxes can be used to stop a child starving to death.
