now senators are defining what "journalists" are whereby only corporate journalists (aka well paid stenographers) are protected by the constitution via freedom of the press

so no more independent journalists, bloggers, investigative journalists will be protected by the constitution of you speak ill of the government or government interests. period. welcome to 1984

lets see if this law is passed...i'd keep an eye on it, if i were you...

You bet. Over the last decade, traditional network "journalists" and big paper reporters have been the most consistently wrong, and most often in the bag for one party or the other. They are critical of guys who do web reporting like Matt Drudge, who works in his pajamas.

Check the Alien and Sediation Acts after the Revolution. These were similar in nature and successfully fought by freedom loving individuals like Jefferson. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any in the Federal government at this time.

Mark Lavins "Liberty Amendments" are the only way to fight these people. Sadly, he seems to be the closest thing to Jefferson today, and he is not even a politically elected figure.

It should be no problem getting this passed with a rubber stamp by SCOTUS.

I love the idea and spirit of Levin's amendment suggestion. It is there in the Constitution, but I see little chance of anyone pursuing it, especially when the supporters can't spell the name of the author. :'(

LEvin would agree, not to be confused with his evil twin LAvin, but his point was that this is the only legal civilized means to reform the system.

Personally, I tend to think that the political process lends itself to tyranny and warmongering collectivism that simply builds upon itself, layer afer layer. For example, the freedoms enjoyed by the Founders could never have been accomplished by the political process.

Of course, I've known to be wrong a few times, so what the hey, give it a go.

I think a law like this will happen eventually. After all, as government become increasingly intrusive and oppressive, a path set in motion long ago, government will continue to undergo a steady and constant barrage of criticism that will only increase.
