The only recent reduction in my civil liberties here has been the recent introduction of biometric passports (brought about by American passport control changes).
There is a great difference between Freedom and Liberty. Figure is out yourself!
Now, smw, do you have an argument behind all that hot air? I really am getting tired of your huffing and puffing of late.

During a demo in Berlin may 8, 2005 the following slogans were to be seen:
"Frei wollen wir sein, nicht "befreit" !
("We want to be free, not "freed".)
and:
"Befreiung ? Ja ! Befreit die Welt van USA"
("Liberation ? Yes ! Free the world of the USA" )

they just shut the hell up? That would speak volumes.

What do you mean "too late"? I am pretty sure that I have more of the really important freedoms here in Europe than anywhere else. What freedoms have been lost?
I can tell that from an American point of view, freedom is not to be left to chance. When one holds liberty dear enough, he doesn't let his neighbor take it. As was the case with Europe.
The only possible explanation is that Europe didn't hold her freedoms dear enough. Her sensitivity to the potential of having them taken was too low.

Originally posted by MerkEurope, and indeed the world, have changed a lot since WWII. In fact, it's not really fair to speak about Europe as a single entity until the foundation of the EU. (well after WWII) Also, I think it was a fair choice (if a little soft) to do everything to avoid war the second time, everyone in Europe remembered the last time hostile action was used to defend liberties and agreed that all alternatives should be exhausted first.

The perspective on war of our two countries is very different, here in France, every single town, EVERY town in France has a memorial listing the dead from WWI, a two hour drive North to Belgium and you park for a picnic, at the base of the electricity poles alongside the road you'll see where farmers have piled up shells and duds from WWI for collection by the military.
If WWI is that clear in our minds after all this time, imagine what it was like less than twenty years after?
I think we can be excused hesitation or a loss of appetite for such things.
Our more recent solution of inter-dependency has been serving us quite well.
Please see

the paragraph on 'Social Trauma', it's quite short.

Q:"Where did i say anything about Europe losing freedoms."
A:"I simply made a statement and asked you, or anyone else could respond."
"Getting tired of all my huffing and puffing? Get used to it."
I'm afraid it's a weakness of mine, I have more faith in mankind than to believe people like you actually exist. I'm hoping it's some kind of elaborate parody of the stereotypical American ignoramus, but even if it's not, at least I get to talk to the real thing. A fully grown man who resorts to name-calling and vacuous argumentation. Truly a sight to behold.

That's fabulous. You figured out how to walk around the issue.
How about, oh, let's see... All those Europeans that hate Israel and America support for it. Whens the last time they stood up for even their own feedoms before it was too late?
If their own feedom isn't important enough to them to act when necessary, are we seriously to consider their views ...[text shortened]... remists come from cultures that have long ago forgotten that liberty requires it be defended.

Accuse someone of name-calling one sentence after calling them an American ignoramus.
The funny thing is the total lack of self-awareness these phony eletists display every time they open there mouths.

Truely a common sight.

as my mother used to say (I should listen more)
"Never argue with a fool, people might not be able to tell the difference"
Point well taken.

I'm sooooo sorry that America had something to do with your new bad passport. HAHAHAHA! Please don't hate us. Please! Why didn't you vote against it? YaHAHAHA!
Isn't that Q & A gibberish taken out of context?
Your faith in mankind is childish and shows your naivete.
You seem to have gotten very good at putting people down yourself. And you, such a meek gentleman, possibly you are now speaking thru your Avatar....ignoramus. Seems that i got you to sink to my level.
Behold the sight till your eyes explode you hippochritt.
Your game is weak, you are a loser, take your ball and go home. Red Head!
