@divegeester saidFrance eh… they better have it sorted out by the end of May, when I go on my annual roadtrip through the Alps to nice Nice.
Is Macron right in his actions or are the protestors right in theirs.

Macron (isn’t that a French dessert?) is obviously in the wrong. It’s a highly volatile piece of legislation in France and he skipped parliament to pass it. That was him basically asking for a nasty reaction.
He must have known that this would happen, so there’s probably some meta-game at play (I presume there are political parties who want to lower the pension age and that now he can say he’s heard the crowd and he won’t increase the age after all, or something like that).
I agree with protests. Especially when backed by unions. I don’t agree with burning buildings and private property though.
In this specific case, anyway.
The average lifespan in France has increased significantly, like in most of the rest of Europe. And paying the pensions is becoming quite a load on society. France has one of the lowest pension ages. Even if they increase it to 62.
However, there are other ways to pay for it.
And there are other ways to increase the pension age, which they (and most of Europe) haven’t looked at.
@divegeester saidThey're in a big hole, people live longer, cost of living keeps going up because of inflation.

The correct solution, pay out whoever you can with whatever is left in the pot then abandon the state pension, tax people less which will allow them to prepare for their own retirement, when they want and on their terms, not one size fits all dictate from the god state control freaks.
My parents both worked, pollies of the day said we'll take this money now (whether you like it or not) and then we'll give it back when you're 65 (or whatever number they shat out that day) It's unsustainable. The old man is long gone (please shag doody for brains, no more of your anal incest jokes) a win for the state, my old Mum struggles on a shyte pension, and the pollies that made the promises are gone, cruising on a state bureaurat pension.
@divegeester saidHe was wrong to bypass the democratic process and raise the pension age by decree, I think it’s that action that turned this into a near uprising.

The French are very attached to the power of the citizenry.
A lot more information on the condition of the French economy would be required to answer the question, they can certainly afford a lot of paramilitary gear for their gendarmes
