Originally posted by whodeyNay. Why should that particular elite (Geitner) be treated differently than congress and most of washington? I see no reason to hold him to the same standards as we held the nominees of republican administrations. Democrats are good, decent, honest people by the very decree of the Messiah, Lord Obama. Are you going to doubt the word of the Lord?
Should the treasury secretary have to pay his taxes? Yea or nay?
While I am not one of them ... there are those who are skeptical of Lady Hillary being in charge of international relations at a time when it is not only LEGAL for the internationals under her Scepter of State to continue contributions to the Clinton Presidential Library & Massage Parlor, but is actually EXPECTED; these same contributions throughout her reign are not to be examined, sayeth the Lord.
I trust Hillary EXPLICITLY. Bill did all the stealing and cheating. And She is a Chosen One. Therefore, let us dismiss the doubters and naysayers, for the Word is the Word, and the Word is the Most Gracious Lord Obama. May the Lord Obama Reign forever!

I can understand why liberals are not speaking out, mostly due to damage control, but why Republicans and conservatives on this site are not speaking out is beyond me. Here we have a blatant crime of not paying taxes and he is being considered for a high ranking position. From what I understand, he blames his "mistake" on the software Turbo Tax. However, the program was not in error, rather, it was the misapplication of the data that was Geithner's fault. So the options are that he is not sophisticated enough to use the software correctly or he is lying. Either possibility is extremely troubling if you ask me.
Does it matter?
The mere fact that Obama has not withdrawn his application for appointment has led me to believe he does not care. I say the voters got it half right last election by expelling the Republicans but now they have the task of finishing the job and voting out the Democrats next go around. I find it hilarious that corruption abounds to such an extent that filling the empty seats of both Obama and Hillary have led to scandals within the Democratic party and now this.
My guess is that if Obama were to be asked as to why he has not withdrawn his nomination he would give some song and dance about how qualified he is and how the country needs someone like him now with his expertise and intellect. However, I would contend that what this country needs most of all is moral clarity. After all, the people who got us into this mess were sophisticated and had the smarts of Geithner so why are we so infatuated by him?

Conservatives are speaking out, but only the ones on radio.

So, do I have this straight?
This guy can't even manage his own income taxes properly, but now he will be in charge of the entire U.S. treasury department.
Something is wrong with that picture. Can't they find someone a little smarter than that?
Well at least there are now 5 on these boards who are troubled with these developments. It gives me some hope. Then again, the average Joe probably has no idea who Geithner is. In fact, the only political knowledge most probably have is that "W" went to war for oil and is soley responsible for the economic crisis and, if were lucky, Palin has an expensive ward robe to boot.
If you guys are shocked that liberals aren't in a fit about this, then at least admit that everyone else isn't shocked that you guys are throwing such a fit about it.
Although you are all doing it, I'll call out whodey in particular since he starts most of these threads. Whodey, the entire tone of your posts has changed. You might try to feign an air of critical non-partisanship, but it's pretty clear from the questions you're asking that you don't approach Bush administration issues the same way as you do Obama administration issues.
Even when you did have trouble with something the Bush admin did. You'd usually couched your posts with small excuses or tried to disperse the final blame among other parties. With Obama, the guy can't take a turd in his private bathroom without you complaining about something.
Okay. Now that that is done, I'll add my bit about Geithner. He's a political appointee. I have good reason to believe that he is not taken very seriously by people who aren't also politicians.
Originally posted by whodeyYea! But they have only gotten him to pay for two of the four years he cheated on. He is a crook and not qualified for any position let alone being the head of the Treasury Dept. I shudder to think of the judges that will be picked during this administration. The Republicans are too spineless to protest anything the Demos want. Corruption runs our states and our federal government....both parties are culpable.
