Whodey thinks that "Having the world ignore genocide in Darfur is what is pathetic".

So, let's discuss it. Why is there so much more international media attention on Palestine vs Darfur? Is the moral situation fundamentally different?

You mean other than the obvious- that people of the same ethnicity of those being murdered in Darfur are not sitting on much of the World's oil?

Well lets see, there is a GENOCIDE going on in Darfur but not so in Palestine yet the media is consumed with Israel.

Speaking of Israel, did you all here that they claimed to board that ship to prevent weapons from going into Gaza to fight them when we all know that they simply enjoy playing pirate!! Oh the outrage!!

I fail to see any answer to the two questions that were posed.

I like the way that was written. Very thought provoking. The World is capitalized, as though it were a person...like Society. It implies that this oil belongs to everybody...

I did not mean to imply that.

Oil belongs to the country (or person) under whose property it sits.

I know it wasn't intentional. Not necessarily even subconscious. It did make me think though.

Is Israel sitting on the World's eastern Mediterranean coast in the same way that the Arab world is sitting on the World's oil?

The "eastern Mediterranean coast" has no strategic significance. Oil has plenty of strategic significance.

Care to explain what significance the "eastern Mediterranean coast" has?

It is the center of trade for Eurasia/Africa and the center of religion for the Abrahamic religions. It is in position to control the Sinai and the Dardanelles. Constantinople was founded so the Romans could be closer to the Levant! It's in the center of the Fertile Crescent and has access to the Mediterranean world as well...

I'm surprised I need to point this out.

1) Egypt controls the only significant shipping lane through the Sinai

2) Turkey controls the Dardanelles

3) No one needs to go through Israel to access any other point in the Middle East

I don't understand at all the concept that Israel has control of the "eastern Mediterranean coast."

1) Israel has taken the Sinai before.

2) The Ottoman Empire controlled the Eastern Med when it was able to.

3) It makes it harder if you have to avoid Israel though.
