@no1marauder saidWho started the global warming movement?
That's ridiculous. Sure, some people working for oil companies did research that confirmed rising world temperatures, but so did many others. And Big Oil then consistently denied that human activities had any significant effect on climate change as the link I provided clearly shows.
Maurice Strong and the Rockefellers, right?

@metal-brain saidI'm not wasting further time with this idiocy. Not a single scientist disputes the common sense notion that higher CO2 composition in the atmosphere can lead to higher temperatures. "The mechanics of the earth’s climate system are simple."
No, it not at all. You are wrong.
You have no evidence that increased CO2 in the atmosphere increases warming. It lagged behind temps in the ice core samples. You have your cause and effect backwards.
An increase in sunlight increases temperatures and that increases CO2 in the atmosphere.
Explain the mechanism of how supposedly rising temperatures would increase CO2 levels.

"In 1965, scientists on the US President’s Science Advisory Committee first put forward concerns about a “greenhouse effect”.
In a report called "Restoring the Quality of Our Environment", the scientists proposed that increasing temperatures in the atmosphere was caused by a buildup of carbon dioxide. "

The science has been known for a while.

That is false!
"Check out the weather on Venus if you don't believe that."
That is simply stupid. How much closer is Venus to the sun than earth?
"Explain the mechanism of how supposedly rising temperatures would increase CO2 levels."
Henry's Law. Warm water cannot hold as much CO2 as cold water. A warmer ocean expels CO2 into the atmosphere. A colder ocean does the opposite.
@no1marauder saidIt is a fact, not a conspiracy theory.

You are lying again.

Venus is hotter than Mercury precisely because it has a CO2 dominated atmosphere. Here's an explanation for kids; try to follow along:
"A lot of people think that Mercury is the hottest planet in the solar system because it is actually the closest to the sun, but that is not the case, because Venus which is the second planet from the sun has a temperature maintained at 462 degrees Celsius and thus it is the hottest planet in the solar system. Now you might be asking yourself why would Venus be hotter than Mercury even though it is not close to the sun as Mercury is. Venus has an atmosphere that is made of carbon dioxide and it also has clouds of acid inside the atmosphere, this thick atmosphere makes the surface of Venus hotter than Mercury and hotter than all the other planets which are found in our solar system because the heat does not escape back into space; this process is called “Greenhouse Effect”."

Henry's Law does not state that somehow, some way, a higher temperature in water creates CO2:
"Henry's law basically states that the amount of a gas dissolved in water will strive to be directly proportional to the amount of that same gas in the air above the water. In the case of CO2, the atmosphere above a swimming pool has a small percentage of CO2 in it, so CO2 leaves the pool over time trying to equalize with the air."

I wonder what crank site you got that one from.
@metal-brain saidGFY.

It is a falsehood that the Rockefellers somehow created the reality of climate change. If anyone is lying, it is you.
@metal-brain saidYou claim the first statement is false without giving a reason why. Empty claims are an annoying habit of yours that is all too common with right-wingers.
Here is an excerpt from your link:
Past and future carbon dioxide

The warm episodes (interglacials) began with a small increase in sunlight due to a tiny wobble in Earth’s axis of rotation or in the path of its o ...[text shortened]... . They have their cause and effect backwards. That is due to disinformation from Al Gore and others.

@metal-brain saidMercury is even closer to the sun than Venus but has colder temperatures due to lack of atmosphere. At night, temperatures can dip to minus 180 Celsius because heat from the sun more easily escapes into space.

Venus, which DOES have a thick CO2 atmosphere, is far hotter than Mercury, despite being 30 million miles further away. So No1's point about CO2 stands.

@no1marauder saidThere is no evidence CO2 causes global warming. CO2 is not the only gas that lags behind temps. Methane does as well. How do you know CO2 is causing global warming and not methane? Scientists who want funding say what they are expected to say. There are scientists who do not accept the nonsense you have been fed by the corp media.

The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is approximately 0.04% and that is next to nothing. Why do you think that tiny amount can cause global warming? What is the percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere of Venus? How much on Mars?
Venus also has sulfur dioxide (SO2) in the atmosphere. Mercury has a very thin atmosphere as you would expect from a small planet. You are comparing apples to oranges.
You don't know the science. CO2 and methane both lag behind temps in the Vostok ice core samples.

Every movement has an origin. If it was not big oil man "Maurice Strong" who was it?

0.04%?
I don't think so.
