Yes the sky is always falling! It's like all the hobgoblins that came before it... iconic theories of impending doom that were irrefutable, unassailable truths held to be the "consensus" view of science at the time. Each a sacred cow paraded in the media by concerned politicians, left-wing intellectuals and scientists predicting the end of modern society. to safety - by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary".
"frightened by the spectres of another Ice Age"
I dealt with this, didn't you read the link? http://environment.newscientist.com/channel/earth/climate-change/dn11643

"a nuclear winter"
I think it's pointless to worry about the winter considering how a nuclear war would be required first, or is the power of a nuclear bomb just another spooky story as well?

"the Jupiter Effect"
http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/tide.html
That one was never proposed by a scientist, ha, never heard of that one actually.

"China Syndrome"
Once more, needs fairly special conditions, a scientist pointing out a possibility and it getting blown out of proportion by anti nuclear nuts doesn't mean the science is wrong. Likewise, a scientist pointing out FACT and people downplaying it to suit their own comfy world view does not undermine the FACT (If you get my meaning).

"acid rain"
talk to the dead fish and forests in Germany duing the 80's

"Y2K"
A disaster successfully averted because we saw it coming and actions were taken, one box has been ticked on that score re AGW

"SARS"
... people died of that, and only about 3 mutations were required for it to spread, the common flu virus goes through that many in a single season, so some measured concern was probably the best thing to do.

"anthrax"
It was posted around the US and killed people, unless you think it's all a conspiracy and those people never actually died, talk to their families.

"global warming, climate change"
Once more, FACT, it's happening, I've given you the figures before. The only possible point of contention is whether it's humans causing it, but then, you've offered no theories which stand up to scrutiny.

"bird flu"
Guess where the 1918 flu pandemic came from? Birds. Guess how many it killed? More than the black death. I'd say some measured concern ont hat count would be warranted as well.

" The influenza pandemic of 1918-1919 killed more people than the Great War, known today as World War I (WWI), at somewhere between 20 and 40 million people. It has been cited as the most devastating epidemic in recorded world history. More people died of influenza in a single year than in four-years of the Black Death Bubonic Plague from 1347 to 1351. Known as "Spanish Flu" or "La Grippe" the influenza of 1918-1919 was a global disaster."

I can't believe the global warming crowd is so uncaring... I only have one taker on actually stopping the end of the world. So anyway... I am in the middle of doing some home remodeling and was curious just what the NEW climate will be in the midwest in the US?
Since your to lazy to crack some heads, can you at least help me out here? Whats the future hold for me... furnace or NO furnace?

edit: also, will I need to get rain gutters.

Best option is to build a wooden structure, on a slight slope, south facing assuming you're in the Northern Hemisphere. Place thermal batteries surrounding the foundations (tyres packed with earth and buried will do).
Keep water and electricity easily accessible for modifications later on. The number one rule is that it's unpredictable for a specific location, so stay on the safe side and build your home that it can be retrofitted if necessary. In either case have good drainage that's accessible. If it gets dry, you can collect the rainwater for grey water usage (toilet cisterns etc.) while if it gets wet, it means that you have the infrastructure required to avoid flooding.
Adaptability is key.

Actually, I'm in the midwest in the united states. Isn't there some study that uses some special climate modeler that has predicted what will happen? What does it say for my area?

[/b], acid rain, the Doomsday Asteroid, the Greenhouse Effect, ozone depletion, Y2K, SARS, anthrax, global warming, climate change and bird flu. [/b]
Hmm, none of these turned out to be end of the world problems? Let's see why...

Acid Rain---massive reduction in industrial emissions that cause acid rain implemented. Too late to save many lakes with non-limestone bottoms but spreading has been halted.

Doomsday Asteroid---hasn't hit yet so hard to refute the premise

Greehouse Effect --- a proven effect...not sure what the point here is.

Ozone Depletion--- massive hole over the poles allowing UV light. Massive reductions in CFC's and other ozone depleting substances forced by governments on industry. Ozone hole has slowly recovered since CFC ban instituted.

Bird Flu---massive bird Kill and monitoring program to stop spread of flu. Deemed a success by World Health Organization.

Y2K---Billions of dollars spent to ensure computer system kept working...are you saying because nothing happened then it wasn't worth it? uh Duh, nothing happened because we fixed the problem!

The point here is obvious. All of the above were problems and we dealt with them so that they wouldn't be problems.

You can't just say because nothing bad happened they were fake problems!! We fixed them before they became problems you nitwit!

I wasn't aiming that at you. You haven't reiterated yourself (as) constantly.

I just figured that if Spastic really didn't do much more than repeat himself for the 100th time then he cannot possibly have a life.

Hey, two independant interpretations of his dribble reaching the same conclusions? I call that a jury of his peers.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/08/070806170331.htm

You're looking at about a 5 degree increase in average annual temperature over the next 40 years, though that seems a little high. With error, assume an increase of 3 degrees on the annual average. Your local climate (rainfall etc.) depends greatly on the local geography and the direction of prevailing winds in relation to them. Rain gutters are always a good idea, they cost little, are maintenance free provided you've no trees too close to your house (and even then, a once annual trip up a ladder will keep them clear). The runoff can be stored for grey water usage. If your area has water charges, this will save you money too.

It's really quite simple. The current global warming/climate change hoax is just the next installment from the chicken little alarmists:

http://www.businessandmedia.org/specialreports/2006/fireandice/fireandice.asp

In a few years, we will be back to worrying about an approaching cataclysmic ice age, caused of course by Man, and that unless governments take "urgent action to forestall the coming danger", we will freeze to death. Then after that, it will be back to global warming.
