the underlying principle of the amish is that God reveals absolute truths which they are required to obey...man ( secularism and humanism ) is a false light and man must be subservient to the truths laid down in the Bible...so you may applaud the amish but you cannot truly do so unless you understand that their religious values is the entire reason they live the way they live...not out of an "earth day" political al gore rationale" but from the duty to be a subservient steward of the earth and to follow the Christ in all things...don't forget that...

in todays world of modern technology and consumption is it possible to create a self sustaining society or will we continue to chip away at our resources till some future time we are left with nothing?
despite the religious principles of the amish, its not required to belive in them to find their way of life agreeable, and not comparable to to the gore hippie idealism. research and progression does not have to be given up only refined to the materials and means that can be completly renewed and replentished
..quite true...but it shows that the eco-leftists do not have a new idea just a imitation of what has already been successfully developed from long held traditional values...nice to see imitation that looks back at foundation and does not have the hubris to yell that they are the authors of change...just the followers of change...follow the amish...
i do agree the amish is a traditionalist way of living but despite the crude lifestyle it has shown success not only in enviromental issues but community and value of life. can these values of scratch my back and ill scratch yours in turn be woven into a new way of life, maybe not a probable one but one that fits into our modern ideas yet holds true to the respect of land, respect of people, and respect of life?
