Possibly the best thing about Texas is our contribution to the world's cuisine: Tex-Mex, barbecue and Blue Bell ice cream.
Actually, the best things about Texas IMO are the Texans themselves, mostly hardcore, old-school Americans.
Big dudes with huge backbones who aren't shy, good natured .. just don't poke 'em with a stick.

While zigzaging, totally wasted, along Austin's 6th street.

Oh, those days :'(

"The ingredients used are common in Mexican cuisine, although ingredients unknown in Mexico are often added. Tex-Mex cuisine is characterized by its heavy use of meat (particularly beef), beans, and spices in addition to Mexican-style tortillas (maize or flour), fried or baked (most traditional Mexican cuisine is not so heavily starch-based as Tex-Mex). Nachos, crispy tacos, crispy chalupas, chili con queso, chili con carne, chili gravy, and fajitas are all Tex-Mex inventions.[citation needed] Serving tortilla chips and a hot sauce or salsa as an appetizer is also an original Tex-Mex combination.[citation needed] Moreover, Tex-Mex has imported flavors from other spicy cuisines, such as the use of cumin (common in Indian food), but used in only a few authentic Mexican recipes."
I have mixed feelings about Texas, really. It is such a wonderful
place but at the same time is hard to remember to whom it belonged.
And makes you wonder how come such a great country was not able
to make out of Texas the great place it is now. No hard feelings, just
anger for the stupidity of the former owners ðŸ˜
At the same time, though, it is the place where you can see the best
how American and Mexican blood can achieve great things: United
families, traditional values, entrepreneurship, ambition... the best
of two worlds. Texas is rich in its diversity, I toast for that.
My only Texas story.
Two of my friends and I got loaded one night and decided it would be a good idea to fly someplace. Anyplace. We went to the airport in Minneapolis and bought 3 tickets to the first plane heading for a big city. It was Dallas. By the time we got there, we were sober and 19. Not old enough to get a rental car or to buy booze, so we never left the airport. We caught the first flight back to Minneapolis. When we got back, we realized we didn't know how we got to the airport in the firstplace so we took a cab. Once I got home and saw my car was missing, we figured out how we got to the airport.
