JMHO - No better than 50/50.

The good news for the GOP is they have history on their side, since the party on power tends to lose congressional seats in midterm elections, also, Joe Biden's approval rating has taken a hit since the American troop withdrawal in Afghanistan, and Democrats historically low voter turnout habits in midterm elections. The bad news: Donald J Trump is not a popular guy with general population, his inciting of the Jan 6th attack on the capital, dismissive attitude toward COVID 19, and attacks on the American election process is not winning the GOP many new voters, also several key Republican US Senators will be retiring soon in order to "spend more time with their families"

Yes - The GOP could win back control of Congress, but I wouldn't bet the ranch on it.

Thoughts?

They have no ideas, no fiscal responsibility, no leadership ability, no follow through, no solutions to existing problems, and take no responsibility for decades of failures while being in power most of the time.

They should all go. That said, they will probably do very well and retake the Senate.

I think a lot of what you said could apply to Democrats who have been in power and right now are spending like crazy and keep expanding programs which have failed for decades.
Personally bad ideas have very little value. So I'm not sure how much credit you should get for ideas like handing over Afghanistan to the Taliban or continually allowing stopping people who don't pay rent from being evicted.

Usually, when a bad idea is correctly identified, a good leader will propose a better idea. The Republicans don't get that far though. They finger wag and shrug. "The elections were fraudulent and I've been saying it for years and I know I'm in office with the authority to fix the problems I've identified but I've chosen not to go that route."

Spending like crazy? That's not a Democrat thing. Obama halved the Bush deficit while he was in office but (pre-COVID) the next guy nearly tripled it by dramatically expanding the nanny state through tripling handouts to farmers (read: likely voters) and handouts to military contractors who are supposed to be wrapping up their mission.

Your other two examples of Democrat incompetence (taliban hand-over and rental assistance) were both conceived and implemented within Republican-led administrations. They didn't have any better ideas. Did they? I can't find it.

edit: this is coming from someone who voted for most of the GOP presidents. They kept saying they would 'rein in Washington' and 'get the house in order' and 'stop spending China's money' but then, every single time, they didn't do it.

I'm not defending Trump and I don't think the Republicans will do well in midterm elections because Trump was far from great.

I just believe the Democrats ideas are terrible I'd rather do nothing new then things that are stupid.

You don't think Democrats are spending let crazy now and would be inclined to spend even more if they had more control of Congress?

Very few would think spending $$ to upgrade our roads, bridges, electrical grid, cybersecurity, and bring internet access to all is "stupid" Donald Trump promised to do all these things, but didn't bother with it, even though he had a friendly congress for the 1st 2 years of his term, choosing instead to focus on his wall, which has accomplished nothing since it's been breached in dozens on places (and we're still waiting for Mexico to pay for it)

I'm not attacking trump. I'm saying the Republicans have no ideas on how to fix societal problems. They only want to identify them and blame others for them and make their base angry at other americans. It's an extremely toxic ideology and I hope they all get voted out and replaced by real conservatives.

Democrats might have bad ideas but at least they are putting effort into fixing things.

But if all you say is true, how could the populace want them to run the government?

We would be amazed to see the real Long-range plans of the Democrats.

Higher corp taxes reduce wages, productivity , and growth. And breaking up big-tech will help China. No one in Dem society cares about this, so they will move forward. Obviously, to create more dependents, some of whom I suspect are on RHP forums.

Does everyone here think it is OK for non-citizens to vote in Federal elections? Of course, if GOP Does take over in midterms, the aint gonna happen. Does anyone here want it to happen?

@sonhouse
I wrote above, how raising the corp tax will be extremely detrimental to our economy, wages , jobs , production , expansion.
It JUST hit me after all these years, given that no libs ever respond to these possibilities...........................Why?.....
Because of their dependent mindset. They KNOW that the Dems are a big welfare party.....and the libs love it, they will be cared for. So, why worry about the effect of anything on the economy? What economy? I just go to my mailbox everyday, and that is cool!!! Now, where is my frisbee?

Lol what are the long term plans of Republicans other than "hold power"?

We give them power and they flail their arms like sock puppets, spend others' money, balloon the deficit and blame all their mistakes on transgender athletes. They spend more time on tv or in a makeup chair or fundraising than they do governing.

They don't have any short term plans either.

Note that the non-biz fellows here never comment on the effect that the dems are about to rain down on the economy. BTW, It is $5.5T, not $3.5T. You are being bamboozled!! I am somewhat of a quasi-socialist already, playing both sides, so I won't be too killed, nor will the parasitic sorts who will live under the rule of the socialists, they will be made comfortable. Others will just fall in between, I 'spect.
