I have 2 little questions if you dont mind :
1. Why are these sad times ?
2. What is the likely effect on humans if the gharial just disappeared (much like the dodo).
If possible can you limit your response to important economic and social problems likely to ensue among us humans. Please dont bother listing reasons like damaging the ecosystem and breaking the food chain.
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Less biodiversity = more vulnerabilities amongst livestock and agriculture to adaptive virulent disease which are evolving at an alarming rate due to popular pharmaceutical defenses (a new anti-virus takes Humanity years to develop, a Virus goes through a generation in a fraction of the time) = increasing % for Pandemics (Avian Flu isn't a myth buddy) = Economic collapses from market fears (What is a plague hits China and no one wants to buy their exports anymore? I'm guessing 99% of everything you touch in a day comes from China) = Bad for Economy.
All that really has nothing to do wit the sad times comments which has an ironic twist with the other comments.
Now that Humanity is relishing in it's unbound ability to procreate, and each little miracle of human life (esp. the American ones) has a significant impact on the world's resources.
More Humans = More Resources Required = Bigger Strain on 3rd World Labor = Wider spread between Rich|Poor = Violence in 3rd world countries = Human genocide (Rwanda) = No time to grasp why the extinction of other life forms is so essential to our own well being (Biodiversity) = Mass Ignorance.
Really, life (which is a prerequisite for an economy) is built on a cycle. It's surprising to me that you have not put that together.
Though, if like a lot of people you're in some dead-end job, eating fast-food 2 times a day, spending your free time being programmed by TV, maybe leaving a little bit to think about how to increase your investments, I guess it's no surprise.
I hope that isn't you, but I can sympathize with how a lot of people become depressed and careless when they follow the modern lifestyle programming.

Life on earth functions on biodiversity.

The post that was quoted here has been removedYou're confusing.
Sounds like you already "get it", but are angry because you're identifying with the downtrodden?
Look, you can't make any positive impact in life if you're too busy getting angry about yours or others situation in life. Maybe that's fine. But then I'm talking to the wrong guy.
A lot of the information we're discussing Humanity was mostly ignorant of until recently and we're still learning obviously. You have to be able to take the big picture view and see solutions not whine about problems.
Am I'm off here?
The post that was quoted here has been removedI don't get your reasoning. Really.
First you came up with a False Dilemma, as if the existence of a larger issue implied the absence of all other issues.
And now, you slate the "middle-class" (spewed with bile, or at least that's how it comes accross) for "plundering the Earth's natural resources" for centuries AND also slate the "middle-class" that attempts to denounce it.
Open your eyes and hears. The "middle-class" does not act nor speak with one voice.
PS: And what "class" are you? You seem to have the "luxury" of caring more about things than just your own "survival".
The post that was quoted here has been removedDefinitely a middle class luxury.
Priority for any sane individual must be PEOPLE.
I would suggest to anyone who has an interest in the environment and tend to condemn the 3W countries for not having an similar concern, to spend some time living among the poor and the hungry.
