A few stray shells have been found with some chemical weapon material, but that seems to be indicative of inefficiency rather than some "secret" stash. Alack and alas, supporting a war means never having to say you're sorry and the rabid right wingers just won't admit that there wasn't any stoc ...[text shortened]... s. They got sent to Syria or Egypt or they're buried or or or or .................. etc.
We both agree on that point. The found shells mean nothing and don't do anything to justify invasion.

And no, I don't have a link to the document. It was something that came out several months ago. I believe it was part of a freedom of information request. It never made headlines because its immaterial. Its udderly insignificant.

I found this:

Monday, May 17, 2004

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A roadside bomb containing sarin nerve agent (search) recently exploded near a U.S. military convoy, the U.S. military said Monday...The Iraqi Survey Group confirmed today that a 155-millimeter artillery round containing sarin nerve agent had been found," Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt (search), the chief military spokesman in Iraq, told reporters in Baghdad. "The round had been rigged as an IED (improvised explosive device) which was discovered by a U.S. force convoy."

They believe the mustard gas shell may have been one of 550 projectiles for which former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein failed to account when he made his weapons declaration shortly before Operation Iraqi Freedom began last year. Iraq also failed to then account for 450 aerial bombs with mustard gas. That, combined with the shells, totaled about 80 tons of unaccounted for mustard gas.

That would explain the "500 shells" idea, but this is years old, not months.

This is not what I am referring to. The story I am talking about was about shells found over the last several years, not just one find. Not about what the military or administration "suspected" Iraq to have.
