hey gun freaks!

i need some help.

walther ppk/s vs kimber tle .45acp.

i know the .45 is much more powerful than the .380acp, right? i'm looking for QUALITY here not so much power. i'm 5'4 and have small hands. I've shot the .45 before and its really fun! but my hands _do get pretty sore, especially the skin webbing area (?) between thumb and pointer. i'm truly set on only these 2 pistols...which is made better? which will last me longer? i've heard kimber has firing pin issues, wears down quickly??

ps. i *might* be looking to go legal conceal carry so i'm sure the ppk/s would be better. but mostly i need a handgun for the home as i live in the scary ghetto 😉

Never heard of any 1911 with "firing pin issues". Some n00b told you that. Kimber's are top of the line, but check out Taurus 1911's , they're about 1/2 the cost of a Kimber and just as good. If it's for home defense, go with the .45, if you plan on carrying it, get the Walther. A .380 in your hand is better than a .45 at home in your nightstand drawer. Concealed carry permits are much easier to get than they once were in many states.

I'm surprised, I thought Kimbers were a lot more expensive. The MSRP on the Taurus site is very inflated, they go for about $600. I like Taurus, their 1911's get very high marks.

Better yet get one of these, they're very concealable and come in 9mm or .45. Cost about $375.

well there are a few kimbers in the $1500+ range at the shop but all of the basic models are in the 800-1000 range new. i think im leaning towards the ppk/s because of its alure and beauty 😀

For you, I would recommend the walther. Small, fairly light. If you are going to wear a holster, much easier to hide. You goal should be to make the bad person understand that easier prey can be found elsewear. Do not buy any fancy ammo. It you get something like hollow-points, in a court you could be accused of trying to kill, vice just defending yourself. Stupid, but its the way the courts work. I have had both, and both are great guns, but stick with the walther.

If you like the 1911 but not the recoil, why not just get it in a lighter cartridge?

I prefer shot guns, you don't have to aim. 😛

Kimber is one of the better models I have fired, also like the S&W sigma 9mm although it can jam if fired to aggressively. But if you really want to stop hood rats might I suggest a 60 cal (just kidding) I don't think you will be able to handle this gun.

But if you are carrying it around, a nice lil 10 shot Browning 25 is very small and will stop your agressor.

Shouldn't this discussion be taking place on the CULTURE forum rather than DEBATES?

Concealed carry is one thing, but if it's for the home I would also recommend a shotgun.

(They're also more versatile; you could shoot small birds with 8 shot, deer with buckshot/slugs and everything else -animal or human- in between. This might be good if the revolution you speak of were to come!)

I shoot handguns quite a bit- I really think that if you aren't VERY WELL trained you're likely to hit everything but your target if panicked. Have you ever gone to a range and tried to draw (fast) and fire? Fire from prone? Turn around (fast) and fire? If you're not practicing this stuff I believe a gun is likely to get you in more trouble.

I shoot Glock (NEVER had a single jam/misfire in thousands of rounds plus I don't like handguns with a safety switch) and S&W revolvers (indestructible) so I can't comment on the guns you're looking at.

I'd argue to not buy too heavily into the power thing...9mm is plenty and will only be easier for you to handle and cheaper to shoot.

If it's for protection, why the hell is "beauty" a factor to consider?
