Dick Metcalf, PASA President, resigned amid a firestorm he created by simply writing an article backing a discussion on firearm limits. Mr. Metcalf is a solid backer of gun oweners rights, and only suggested a discussion and exchange of ideas might be a healthy thing...and he was drummed out of their ranks with dishonor! It seems among the guns and ammo crowd, even free speech is forbidden. You either march to their song without question, or you're history. Are gun advocates so paranoid that the idea of free and open dialogue is not permitted within their ranks?? This is crazy!

It would help to see an example.

It cuts both ways.

"But asked if the GOP will grow beyond the pro-life litmus test that seems to stand between him and top-tier status, he gives a slight shrug: “I don’t know if that’s ever going to happen.”"

It always cuts both ways, which is why I thought this topic funny.

Free speech in Constitutional connection refers to no government denial of such. It does not indicate anyone can say or write anything anywhere.

Guns and Ammo magazine is a non governmental, private commercial entity, which can hire and fire as they wish, especially editors and writers, whose opinions will grace their pages. Political speech writers and press agents get canned all the time for what they say.

I don't think anyone has said the gun writer canning was unconstitutional or illegal. There are incidents on both sides. It's just informative.

When "free speech" is invoked, it is legal that is being talked about.

OK so you did talk about it, to deny it is a free speech issue. I agree.

It is not a good time for going along with discussion of firearms limits. The NRA was doing this all along and many gun owners steered clear of them because of it. Had the NRA not been involved in this and had not been an active participant in writing gun laws that were not constitutional, then the public would not be so sensitive about it now.

" Had the NRA not been involved in this and had not been an active participant in writing gun laws that were not constitutional..."

Could you identify some of these laws? Just curious.
