Do hackers serve any good purpose in our world or are they dangerous and harmful?
If I were a really, really good hacker (which I am not) I would want to humiliate the entire world for making such dumb, boneheaded mistakes. I would want to show how silly it is to put all the security of the world into military and diplomatic efforts.
I would probably just steal several trillions of dollars from the worlds banks, steal all the assets off of leveraged edocuments worldwide, leaving a lot of worthless mortgages and finally -- I would chuckle as all the governments rushed to "BAIL OUT!" their banks, insurance agencies and national currency. It would be fun to watch them all scurry around in secret sessions, printing trillions of dollars (or equivelent currency) pretending like this new "i"maginary money that pops up out of nowhere is real -- shoving more of the "i" money into the global economy, hoping to avoid "disaster". I would probably hack the hedge funds of the world to see how high I could get gas prices. Just for fun.
It would be fun to know that all the nations meeting in secret sessions was really all about me... the hacker(s) who ruined the worlds economy in a few days.
I wonder if there is some group or person out there who knows why George Bush socialized the US economy over night. It would be a real ego trip to know that you did in a few days what the Soviet Union and it's minions couldn't do in sixty years -- turn the US into a socialist state. I wonder.

How does it feel being paranoid?
It is a subject for debate. This IS the "debates" forum.
I don't think that it is an even remotely probable thing. I know elvis is dead. I think Oswald killed Kennedy all by himself, and I think that people who believe in UFO's are nuts.
Life is kind of boring without something to debate about though.

Then I'm confused, what do you want to debate?
I guess an obvious point of debate would be "Proposed: All the money spent by governments world wide on Cyber Warfare Defense is wasted because there can be no defense if the Offense is better funded." or something.
Do you think that Cyber War constitutes real war?
Or do you think that there are people in the world engaged in Cyber War?
I dunno. There has to be something more interesting to debate than Palestine and Israel.

in fact a hacker is someone who spends his time searching for ways to
utilise potential security holes in all sorts of software in order to better
secure his own system. The hacking part comes from "hacking" together
source code that will solve the immediate problem until a more
permanent solution can be coded.
I would ask you not compare a decent hacker with a low-life, buffoon
minded cracker such as your-would-be-self, sir.

Let's just call it "public relations" and think about it in silence.
I disagree with your proposition because the security against hackers is definately far better funded than the hackers themselves.
