to see if the word nazi is in every thread? What is the deal?

Is it just used to mean... bad people? or do the posters really want us to think that dems or republicans or France are truly nazis?

It's because people can't debate a topic without attacking (labeling) anyone that disagrees with'em. At one time there was some internet specific name for this tactic? It's porbably on wiki somewhere.

Exellent point. I think that the argument is usually lost by the first person to impose it upon his opponent.

But in a lot of cases, it is the very essence of the "perfect example" to depict an awful lot of "bad" things. It is the very definition of "facism" and "national socialism" for example.

So to use it in a personal attack seems to be a losing argument. To use it as an analogy to current events or movements seems completely valid, else we are also doomed to learn nothing from history. So although it may seem repetative, we need the analogies in order to prevent making the same mistakes over and over again.

This is the burden of the German nation. It isn't fair in a lot of ways. But nothing the Nationalist Socialists did was do do with "fairness". I would hope that the average citizen of the world today is sufficiently sophisticated to know that modern Germany is FAR, FAR removed from any of that DOCRINE -- but that the lessons of history, while painful, are necessary.

I tend to immediately ignore whatever the person has to say after that term is used... but I do understand that under certain circumstances it is the correct word, I just haven't seen a good example yet.

usually when people tend to support a point of view that utterly destroys freedom of speech, religion, something that encourages prejudices, nazi is a handy insult. of course insults are almost always the result of failed debating(somebody lost it) and should be avoided if at all possible. i for one tend to loose it when i "debate" with spasti, but i can't use nazi against him.
