"Hospitals around the country, from regional medical centers to smaller local facilities are closing down pediatric units. The reason is stark economics: Institutions make more money from adult patients."
I am sure someone will step in and offer pediatric care where it is missing. Eventually. When it is profitable. The free market regulates itself.
What about the kids in the meantime, you ask? Well they should find their bootstraps and pick themselves up by them. If they are winners.

It’s not like it even does a good job for the capitalist systems given that they lurch from one self induced, lack of regulation related crisis after another.

@zahlanzi saidThere's a great example of free market healthcare exists in most countries, it's relatively unregulated (it could be even less regulated, in NZ anyway) it's called the veterinary service, it's cheap, vets make good money, there are no shortages, and wait times are wayyyyyy down.

If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there'd be a shortage of sand. Milton Friedman.
@wajoma saidHahahahaha, congratulations. You have finally posted something stupid enough for me to break my 5+ years streak of ignoring you. I ain't even mad, this post was really a masterpiece in stupidity. If you are a troll looking for attention from me, you got it, i take my hat off to you.

You know what happens in veterinary service when we don't have enough money to treat a patient? We dig a hole in the backyard and we put Fluffy in a box and bury it. We shoot horses who break their legs and turn them into glue. We euthanize cats and dogs , we get sad about it, then we buy a new one after a reasonable 1-2 months of feeling blue. We dispose of sick chickens and we buy chicks to replace them for pocket change.
Great analogy buddy. It genuinely put a smile on my face, I really mean it.
Now back to ignoring you. See if you can get a response from me earlier than 5 years now?

@zahlanzi saidSome might argue that putting a horse down rather than putting a person on a die while you wait waiting list is more humane. Some might say torturing people into going private by allowing them to suffer a painful easily treatable condition on a waiting list is inhumane and immoral. Torturing them into going private after they've paid a lifetime of taxes.

My fathers dying wish "Don't send me back to that place". My mother needs a new knee, no problem, we can fit you in in about 5 years, hope you don't die in the meantime.
It occurred to me when I had a work accident involving a 9" grinder, took 2 days to get stitched up (they say for stitches to work it's better to get done within 24 hours to aid healing and reduce scaring) meanwhile the vet tended to the neighbors cat that very same afternoon. The light went on.
Comparing like for like the veterinary service wins hands down on price and speed. Animals and taxpayers everywhere are grateful the goobermint doesn't run 'free' animal state healthcare.

Am I missing something here? Do you want ME, AvJOe , to stop what I am doing and come over to your house? What in the hell? And while there, you ask me to always be on standby? Because that is what you are saying.
Gimme a break.

@averagejoe1 saidyou just had this post prepared and you just threw it the first chance you got? You do know the original post's point is exactly the opposite of this, that even if you did want to pay you can't, because the product you're looking for, child healthcare, is no longer profitable to put on the shelf? Right? You did read the original post, right? Quick, make up some justification for why your post is relevant.
For the record, anyone who has a pet needs to pay for their pet, anyone who has children need to pay for their children. Jesus.

@averagejoe1 saidGood. So, if you want police to protect your property from the masses, you pay for it yourself.

And if you want to wage a war, you pay for it yourself and you fight in it yourself.
Oh, and if you want a flushing toilet, you pay for the sewers yourself. And if you want to walk safely down the street without getting sick because people choose not to buy a sewer system, you pay for their sewer systems, so you, yourself don’t get ill.
Or. You just stay locked in your house, with your body guards 24/7.
I’ll tell you something, wee Joe, that has been done before. Basically it’s called the Dark Ages. But, one could also call it the post-Roman era or early middle-ages.
And guess what? It wasn’t pleasant. Not even for those locked in their castles and it didn’t work.
Actually, it led to the feudal system.
Which… guess what… wasn’t perfect. And it evolved into another system, and then another system. With ever more groups of people wanting a say in how things are done. With less orders being given by unaccountable individuals.
Hey… guess where it’s led us. And you want it turned back, instead of progressing forward.
Guess what, wee Joe… people don’t like trudging around in sludge. And letting them eat brioche only leads to heads rolling down hills.
Try keeping your head on your body when coming up with stupidity.

Private security, essentially people paying for their own police is a huge industry because the state is so bad at doing it.
Goobermint: "Give us this money or else and we'll protect you and you property."
Wajoma: "I'd like to report a stolen vehicle"
The cops: "Was it insured?"
Wajoma: "No"
The cops: "Then why are you calling us other than to get a report for the insurance Co."
In other words your vehicle has gone and we're not going to find it.

You don’t know history, you don’t comprehend economics or change. And you can’t see the larger picture of what you’re actually suggesting.
Hence that nowhere in the world is it like you describe. You’re brain’s frozen or something. And all you can do is squirt Ayn Rand tropes out your ears.
She ended up begging for handouts too.

@wajoma saidThis is what the socialist Shavs dont get. Universal services, like police, sewers, roads, water, emergency rooms, FDA, education etc etc are used by everyone. So we all go-socialistic and throw money in the same pot to pay for those things.

A good example to Not be included in these expenses might, indeed, be children. Not everyone has children. The stolen vehicle? Not everyone has a vehicle. But libs think only in terms of mobs, and they think we are all brothers. I am not. I am not related to the killers who killed two policemen last night. Libs think that they are, and that that they deserve some 'fair share' the MB writes about all the time. They do not.
They love the mob of fat nasty students at Univ of Fl who are trying to get rid of the Univ President whose principles are different than theirs.. I say to expel the students who are protesting.
All of the posts of liberals have one recurring theme, that we have to all pick each other up, such as that. How can the winners be winners if they get bogged down by losers? The libs are OK for instance with dumbing down the schools now, to let the Mexicans fit in.

@shavixmir saidYOU're losing it Shav. See post above. We have govt services to cover basic need of 'the peeeeoooople', as Marauder likes to call us in Marxist vernacular.

But your post is weak, because it says the obvious, like sewers and police. Shav, what about abortions? I am not pregnant and dont care about those who are, it is their business. So you are facetiously ranting about sewers and police, that we don't individually pay for those services. Why don't you say facetiously that I should pay for my own abortion? Everyone needs basic city services, but the other 'services' you want us ALL to pay for are simply elective.
Ahhhhh, of course, AvJoe, I didnt think of it that way.
You're welcome.
@averagejoe1 saidnot everyone uses emergency rooms. I plan to never get hit by a car. Not everyone uses the police or the fire department, i plan to net get robbed and not have my crap catch fire. I am not a woman i don't need birth control pills or pain medication each month.

Everything can be argued one way or another that is "not used by everyone". You just want your cake (calling yourself a pulling by one's own bootstraps, ayn rand simp, mighty capitalist) and eat it to (having access to the social programs YOUR selfish ass wants)
