It would appear that you guys have alot of free time on your hands. I'm reading a book on how to rebuild a Ford 9N Tractor using only 4 combination wrenches....And Crowley, i really don't give a bloody roid whether you care or not. Suck my milk.
GRANNY.

It's fun to watch elitists make fun of somebody for being able to work with their hands. In a laugh at, not with kind of way.
I find it humorous that you actually think greasemonkey is an insult.

I suspect Granny is trying to perpetrate some reverse elitism...that good old-fashioned anti-intellectualism, a kind of snobbery unto itself. Of course, Granny being a thoroughly subversive creature as well as an excellent plumber, she is probably just yanking chains.

I don't see reading or discussing fiction as an elitist activity, unless you privilege it above other sorts of discourse. There's a branch of critical theory (more or less defunct) that treats absolutely any text as a point of departure for delirious ramblings about verbal slippage and the porosity of the reality principle.
As for writers, some of my favourites started off doing other things, like serving in the Korean War (Gene Wolfe), before going on to write stuff that rips the top right off your skull.
