I hope for a better lifestyle.

I despair that I probably won't get one.

What do you base these hopes and fears upon? Is it the political world or something else?

I have only hope. No despair. Short an illness to a family member, 2013 is going to be great. The year about to expire was unbelievable. I packed a decade's worth of life into it, and I have stories that I'll tell my grandnephews (but not the nieces!).

2012 was probably the most fun year of my life. Not the best - that was the year I got married. But most fun? Probably most fun I'll ever have.

And now I'm exhausted and I want to sleep for a month.

I am out of work the last 16 months.
Can't find work.
Maybe 2013 will be better.

I see. So where does your hope lie in finding a job, or do you still have hope?

I hope for the complete destruction of capitalism (at least as we know it), the crushing defeat of religious fundamentalism and the abolition of the designated hitter.

In reply to Sasquatch and whodey,

I always have hope. You have to have hope.
Without hope all is lost. I believe in the philosophy of
there is always another way.

With that philosophy and the strength of human spirit and CAN DO,
anything is possible. Anything can be achieved. I have turned my hand
to fiction writing and have had a little success at it. Maybe that is where my
path lies in 2013. I have had many different jobs and have acquired many
different skills, although unlike sasquatch and a few others here I was never
in the military.

With that accumulation of knowledge and experience, I hope to put it all
to good use for whatever time I have left. The world will turn and the cycle
will begin again. We won't be in recession forever.

I will have to make a serious go at this fiction writing for two main reasons.

1. I am 51. Too old to consider emigration.

Some of you might not agree with that.

2. The economic situation here in Ireland dictates the we will not
be on a sound footing again for many years. Growth is low
and we have over 400,000 people unemployed.

Wish me luck. Thanks.

I hope I'll win the lottery, although I won't be buying any lottery tickets.

I don't despair.

Well then, things must be looking up for you these days, minus the DH. 😵

I'm not sure economic prosperity will ever be in the cards again. If not, would you lose hope?

I'll tell you one thing whodey my man,

If you were all I had with that attitude of yours,

I'd go into a locked darkened room alone with a bottle of Jack Daniels and a gun.

Lighten up man!!!

I'm with you on the designated hitter.

Without buying a ticket hope of winning the lottery is despair.
