Sanders isn't trying to win. He is just there to make it look like Biden has competition. Biden lied all over the place in the last debate and Sanders could run all sorts of campaign ads to make him look ridiculous, but they are good friends. That will be Sander's excuse for leaving the dirt for Trump to exploit if he chooses to.
