They don't seem to realise that people are dying everyday, and how often do we hear about the arrest or killing of insurgents in comparison to how often we hear about the death of more american marines. If they actually carried on the war instead of just sitting in Baghdad and letting people take potshots at them, they might actually get somewhere.
You make some very valid points. What do you suggest we do? Leave now and say screw the 1900 who gave their lives in defense of the idea of a free Iraq. Have we become a nation of quitters who cut and run at the first sign of trouble? We need to send a stronger message to Syria and Iran to quit meddling in Iraq's affairs.

I'm tired of the "11th century cretins" viewpoint. Even in the 11th century, there was a diversity of viewpoints among Muslims ranging from radical extremism to what you might call non-violent brotherly love (look up Rumi as an example). Yes, the extremists are cretins, but it has more to do with their mentality--comparable, to take a random example ...[text shortened]... Wa'habism for more information on why these freaks are abberations even to their own religion.

To understand the cretinous mentality and its spread, you have to understand Wa'habism. It's a flatly insane interpretation of the Koran.

Yeah, and killing mudhutters with a tank is such bravery and such skill.
Unless you are a Jarhead, your opinion is worth a bag of farts.
Marines know exactly what are signing up for. If we were scared to die, we would have joined the army, air force, navy or coast guard.
The price of freedom is buried in the ground, the price is also our sons that are willing to sacrifice everything to give the right to a bunch of chicken sh#% armchair quarterbacks to sit home and sacrifice nothing. The draft should be mandatory for anyone turning 18. It's the only way to become a real man. Those same people would be speaking German or Japanese if it were not for the Jarheads.

A "mandatory draft is the only way to become a real man". That's quite a statement. Have you found your manhood yet in the Marines? What about men that don't serve in the Marines, but instead dedicate themselves to helping others through the Red Cross or religious organizations such as the Salvation Army? Are they pansies or wussies???
Which freedoms are the US Marines defending in Iraq? Specifically, which freedoms of US citizens were threatened by the Iraqi Army?

In many conflicts, members of the other armed forces of the United States have complained that the Marine Corps often emphasizes its prowess at the expense of the reputation of Army or Navy units which are nearby. An example occurred at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in the Korean War, when a Marine officer (probably Lt. General Lewis "Chesty" Puller) disparaged the undermanned Army infantry regiment which took the initial Chinese attack.

Then there's that movie with Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson...A Few Good Men? An Officer and a Gentleman? The one where Cruise is the Navy Lawyer. The Marines insult the Navy in that movie. That's just fiction though.
Originally posted by AThousandYoungAll services good-naturedly chide each other, and yes, the Marines have an arguable reputation of being toughest of the 5 services. The Army kicked as much ass in the early days of the Korean war as the Marines did, and if Chesty Puller made such a comment about the Army being "undermanned", I'm sure he was addressing the beurocrats in Washington or high Army officials for allowing an "undermanned" unit to be undermanned in the first place. I'm certain he wasn't questioning the fighting abilities of the Army soldiers in that "undermanned" unit. To answer your question, though, no honorable Marine would insult any other service out of malice unless he/she were drunk...and yes, that has been the cause of many a brawl between services...Marines vs Army vs Navy vs Air Force; we Coast Guard folks smartly stays out of the way and go about doing what we've been doing for the past 215 years: saving lives (35,000 in Hurricaine Katrina), interdicting drugs and illegal migrants, and defending the US whether on the Atlantic, Pacific, Caribbean, or Persian Gulf....sometimes we fight amongst ourselves though... 😉
