Do recent surprise developments in Korea herald greater prosperity for the two Koreas, or is the industrial park merely to be a source of cheap labour for Southern firms and income for key Northern officials?

Hard to say, it seems both Koreas prefer to mutually gain from peace and south korea's prosperity, who knows after communism dies in korea how things will work out.

Hyundai built a plant here and vacated in 7 years. What they do is quite transparent and superficial.

That is to say, it's cheap cheap cheap labor and if the plant goes belly-up in a short time, well, they seem to be able to absorb the fallout quite easily.
