Lockdowns aren't fun but they're better than funerals. Sort Worldometer's "deaths per million population" column and you'll find us way down near the bottom of the list.
I notice that the military have now been deployed in Sydney to enforce lockdown.
Because we're not heavily over-policed or over-populated we have difficulty finding a surge workforce when we're stretched. The defence forces are routinely called in to help in civilian matters - the most recent being bushfires and floods. They leave their weapons in the armory and work under the direction of whatever Emergency Services group is co-ordinating the crisis.
It's not AK47s in the suburbs, it's a brown-overalled unarmed individual assisting the police-uniformed home-quarantine checker in each case.
We had them here in Melbourne's lockdown last year. They do initially frighten the folk in quarantine, but the food and medical supply packages they carry soon changes that.

@mercury saidI didn't say we ALL approved, I mentioned the objectors who make up a very small percentage of our population. I didn't mention, and perhaps I should have, that we have large groups of immigrants who may not understand our particularly confusing political messaging and may not even understand the community obligation to self-isolate if you have been in contact with a known case.

Journalists like emotive words and embroidering public announcements with emotive words is ubiquitous in our media. Add in the anti-vaxxer and liberty-or-death manure-spreaders and the shock jocks and it would take a very gullible individual to accept media guff as gospel.

Have you seen the age breakdown of covid deaths? The death rate looks exponential in general shape. Once you hit 65 it really starts to increase. In other words, this thing is more like a typical flu for younger people.
If younger people, especially those younger than 40, are not in danger from COVID, why force them into house arrest?

I know right? Can you believe that people actually think GENETIC ENGINEERING is something to be afraid of? They're afraid of a tiny pin-prick designed to prevent serious illness from a novel virus with unknown long-term health effects.
