Ignorance on my part, whats the the story with G Bay in Cuba.
My limited understanding is that the US (in general) does not like Cuba, thus its a bit strange to me that
(1) Cuba allows them their
(2) US actually are their ?
The only thing I can understand is that the US want to keep an eye on Cuba, hence being their ?

Google it .. basically the US bought it or rented it or leased it, so it belongs to the US.
And the spelling is 'there' not 'their'. Is English your second language?

The US received an indefinite lease some time after the Spanish-American war to the area for the sum of ~4000 USD/year. A check is sent yearly from the US to Cuba. Except for one (apparently by mistake), none has ever been cashed and are said to pile up in Fidel Castro's desk drawer.
Recently, the question of whether the US has violated the treaty has been raised, since the base is leased only for "coaling and naval purposes" -- not for use as a detention center.
As to the purpose -- all US military bases overseas are mainly to project US military influence, regardless of where they are.

If you have nothing to add, don't add at all. The effort spent writing your comment, is the same as actually answering his question.
Furthermore, if you point out spelling, be sure you do it perfect as well. There are people from countries where English is not their native tongue. You could look that up yourself!
Personally I think the US is "keeping an eye out" on Cuba. Having a base their, could scare terrorists to employ activities in Cuba. For terrorist, Cuba could be ideal.

Then he states opinions. There are no questions. I see question marks only but no corresponding questions.
Maybe if you research it a bit you will figure out why the US is there (not their) and it has nothing to do with terrorism.

Maybe check your own spelling before you criticise others, jack@ss.

For someone that was an accountant / IT professional and is retired now, you really need to take a chill pill.
Maybe have a red stripe or some white rum to relax since your flag shows you are from the West Indies
You say my spelling is not good, fair enough, but I think it’s hypocritical that you point fingers at me, but in your own profile you have spelling mistakes.
Wont, should be spelt won’t, as should dont, be spelt don’t.
My apologies if my wording is not quite right for you, but when I wrote:
“The only thing I can understand is that the US want to keep an eye on Cuba, hence being their?”
That is my question is to why the US is still in Cuba?
I personally don’t trust Wiki as this information can be changed, I’m sure you are aware of recent cases.

Please come up with answers /views instead of silly comments, irrelevant to this debate.
Yes, the topic states ignorance. Yes the content is becomming ignorant, but the idea behind was not. Unless you have something usefull to comment, you're the ignorant one.
If we look everything up and tell ourselves that's the trueth, what's to debate about? 😕
Originally posted by Sith Lord TiesI actually did make a useful comment. I told RSMA that the US had either bought or leased or rented the land.
..... Unless you have something usefull to comment, you're the ignorant one..
Your only 'useful' comments were that :
1. the US is 'keeping an eye out for Cuba' - whatever that means
2. the US is trying to scare away terrorists.
The US does not need to have a physical presence in a country to keep an eye there. They have been keeping an eye on the world via satellite for decades now. The US had a military base in Trinidad for a very long time and the overiding reason (and there are others) for bases is logistics and deployment of troops.
As for you terrorists comment, bear in mind the US had no serious terrorists threat at the time G-bay was acquired in 1903. Is only when Israel became a nation in 1948 and after several wars the surrounding countries and Palestinians realised they could not win a single war, then they decided to terrorise the supporters of Israel - US and UK and others.
If Cuba had remained a friend an ally of the US, the US would have pulled out of Gbay a long time ago.
So here is my opinion and my contribution to this debate :
1. The US leased the land in Cuba 1903 for military reasons as the world was about to be plunged in a world war. Its the same reason they leased land in Trinidad.
2. The US kept the lease going after the Cuban revolution in the late 50s just to provoke Castro and to keep a foothold going in a communist country.
As far as I'm aware, to give you my two shilling's worth, the Cuban authorities have publicly denoucned the detention centre.
Also, the mere fact that the US has to use stolen Cuban territory to illegally house people they're illegally holding captive without representation (although I have heard some of the detainees will be allowed lawyers... after 6 bloody years) is sickening.
It beggers belief dat Americans can actually sleep at night, you'd think their conscience would be working overtime!
It's also amazing that the average American still can't figure out why their country isn't popular in most of the world.

5 words and you had to edit it?
Next time read it over and then hit the 'Post' button .. moron.
But it's interesting how your advice applies even better to your own post.
Including the insult, obviously.
