@suzianne said"For your information, every federal agency has their gun-toting division,"
Wouldn't be necessary without the Second Amendment.
For your information, every federal agency has their gun-toting division, even the freaking Postal Service. It's stupid they waited this long for the IRS. Those who skirt tax law often have weapons to secure their grifting.
I will just stop your lie right there...
you people can say some really bone headed things
@suzianne saidIf the Trumpists attempt a putsch in 2024 that succeeds to any degree in blocking a lawfully elected Democratic president from entering the White House, there would be a fight. It could be a one-week period of civil unrest across the nation, or a civil war that drags on for a few weeks. But I believe it would be brief, because the putschists -- being Trumpers -- would make many mistakes, and internecine struggles amongst the largely anarchistic, individualistic right-wing militias over what to do at each point in the struggle would result in disarray or paralysis.
But what if the right seized control and instituted a reign of terror, a literal tyrannical government the right is always telling everyone about to keep them in line, with a re-written Constitution to enshrine their quasi-religious government in law? Revolution, in that case, could be the last option we have left to save our democracy. "Fighting in the streets, with our children at our feet", as The Who said, would become mandatory -- doing nothing, not an option.
In short, the "every man is an island unto himself" mentality of the rightists would be their undoing, along with the fact that they're largely idiots living in an alternate reality that is disconnected from everyday facts. But we cannot be complacent: Hitler's lieutenants were a warped bunch of sociopaths if ever there was one, and they dragged Germany into the abyss.
Anyway this is my sense of where things would go. Clearly the Republicans are actively laying down plans to steal the 2024 election. I have noticed that Republicans increasingly tend to project onto Democrats the very atrocities they inwardly hope to perpetrate in the future. "Stop the steal" is code for "We're done with this democracy crap and will just take what is our due next time around."
So, while many Republicans genuinely believe the 2020 election was stolen despite having zero evidence, I contend that many are saying "stop the steal" to erode faith in democracy. We have reached the point where the GOP recognizes that it is a minority party, and thus dispensing completely with free and fair elections is the only tool left to them. Up until 2020 it was just one of many tools in their kit. The party has no constructive ideas, really, and has largely given up on even having a platform.

How Trumpian.

We can't let the threats stop us from rallying at the ballot box to contain them, like what happened in 2020.
@soothfast saidWe can only hope. Murdoch, Musk and Koch à la lanterne!
That is a big assumption, but while I wouldn't expect the Democratic Party to initiate billionaire lynchings, I also doubt it would have the will or ability to hold back a populist explosion on the left end of the political spectrum that takes things beyond the ballot box. The right wing is actively undermining the ballot box and increasing the chance of this happening.
@mott-the-hoople saidOnes that are pursuing criminals do.
every agency doesnt have a police force, much less one trained in urban warfare. you made a stupid comment.
@athousandyoung saidYeah, well, aside from being a cancer eating at the underbelly of democracy, I'm beginning to think that today's right-whingers (pun intended) simply do not understand the most basic aspects of how a democracy works.
The legislators are elected!
@soothfast saidOh, they do. They just don't want anything to do with it. They prefer the Russian model.

@shallow-blue saidOkay, I'll be generous and say that some right-wingers don't grok democracy. Despite being a minority party, the GOP is certainly a "big tent" party when it comes to all the different flavors of idiot it will allow in its ranks.
Oh, they do. They just don't want anything to do with it. They prefer the Russian model.
@athousandyoung saidThe left will not 'back down' for 10,000 years. We are dealing with the devil, where they get their incessant movement.
It relies on the assumption that the Left will back down indefinitely..."if they have no bread let them eat brioche"...
