Should a guy without a college degree who invented a new technology process in his garage that literally changed the entire world, a guy who took advantage of all the great opportunities that a free and capitalist society has to offer and got filthy rich in the process, trash capitalism and tell us it doesn't work?

No -- he has every right to say whatever he likes, after all, he lives in a free country. What bugs me is when the super-rich, like Gates, Warren Buffet, George Soros, Bono, etc., tell me I don't shouldn't have the opportunity to pursue my dreams or get rich like them and that I need to support the "Death Tax," a progressive tax structure, and worldwide social welfare outreach.

I think the world will be a better place without you.
Why not do us all the favour?

You're an idiot, my friend. A complete and utter idiot.

However, I agree on the hypocrisy issue about people like Bono. I steal their music nowadays, make a CD and throw them out of hotel windows in disgust.

I support the death tax, does that make me retarded? (loaded question)

Its a follow on from the golden rule(who has the gold...makes the ......etc) accept that Bill Gates is not that dictatorial, and would rather influence peoples opinions and get them to change and demand a difference for themselves

Since we're on the subject of dispensing advice to people we've never met, it's my belief that unhappy people like you make the world a worse place. Your situation is so crappy because of your own incompetence and/or lack of effort, your only solution is to take drugs or embrace the failed god of socialism. You should get a J-O-B, then you'd have less time to brood.

No -- it means you either don't understand the issue (which I highly doubt) or you think the role of government is to redistribute other people's money (which, based on your previous posts, is highly likely).

no I understand the death tax, and I know that it doesn't affect me, or any of my relatives. In fact, it affects less than 1% of the country's population. The super rich are not affected ether, as they can afford very smart lawyers and estate planners; it is only those caught with their pants down that pay it.

I haven't read anything by Mr. Gates, but perhaps he's concerned with how business models under capitalism are strictly profit driven- and only consider monetary profit as acceptable fulfillment of corporate goals. Capitalism also tends to favor those who already have money- and allows the rich to prevent the poorer classes from attaining the same level of wealth. I don't think it's a matter of Warren Buffet, Gates, and Soros getting together and trying to change the rules to prevent others from being rich or well-off- from what I've read of Buffett, it's exactly the opposite, in fact.

Oh right, because anyone who disagrees with the premise that the unfettered free market always leads to the greatest eventual good must be retarded, even if that someone is Bill Gates. You rabid free-marketeers are going to win a lot of hearts and minds with that one.

Back to Gates.

Are all your memories so short? Gates was never political, no interest, not even a contributor...to either party! Until......... Clinton sent his henchmen after him, remember the hearings. He found politcal religion after he was nearly forcibly raped. Amazing how one can get political converts and donators. 🙂
