We had that recent chap in London who attacked people on a train with a knife and Rajk was quick to announce he was a Muslim. (Something he had read on Quora).
Turns out he wasn't a Muslim at all, although the brave chap on the train who tackled him was. (Rajk then evaporated from the conversation).

Those passages of the Quran relate to various battles Mohamud was fighting at the time, the unbelievers being their military enemy. Their call for the total destruction of their foes is no different than the language you find in the Bible. Take for example Deuteronomy 7:1-2 and Deuteronomy 20:16-18 that contain explicit commands to annihilate their enemies:
