With the dismissal of all charges against Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, is it true what some commentators are saying: September 10 America is back?
American culture, in some ways, went into a survival/war mode after Sept 11th. The good life and war mode do not go together. The good life has been coming back for years.

Originally posted by bill718Yes they did! Clinton was out of office only 7.5 months before 9-11, so it was a result of a build-up of things that happened from the first bombing of the WTC in 1993 until 9-11-01. Clinton had many opportunities to take out bin-Laden, but he refused...the USS Cole incident happened in Oct. 2000......on Clinton's watch!!!!

Which would make the original question comprehensible to me, how?

My answer: If by complacency you mean: good will (as opposed to the
self-righteous smugness that has always been there), then maybe that
part of USA:an nature never really disappeared, it merely got gagged for
two terms? Truth is, I don't think the US can ever be the beacon of light
they set out to be, not after all this. It's clear to everyone now that the
US is just another dictatorship in a long line through history, and that
true freedom and individual influence in politics is beyond the grasp of
anyone who's not devoting his/her entire life to a given issue, and
allowing him/herself to be bought by the true powers to be.
And now from our sponsors: The positive, non-conspiracy-crackpot
answer: Why, golly gosh, it sure looks that way to me. 🙂
