At the time, it scared the crap out of me. I DO NOT BELIEVE IT.
A form of religion wishes to ban chess and I draw the comparison to Dungeons and dragons being condemned by religion and no one has an opion about the matter?
Condola the lot of you!

However, I did perhaps jump to the conclusion, or something very near to it, that chess would end up being banned, for a number of reasons, including but not limited to Sistani's counter-advocacy, because I assumed that the commentator was expressing a well-founded belief, based on various bits of information I didn't have about the political situation there, like the impending dominance of the Shia majority. But it looks, on reflection and further investigation, like there is nothing in the situation that guarantees it, and the author (Ingram) was overstating. I hope so.
I suggest you re-read your first two posts in this thread, which clearly indicated your agreement with the author of the article that chess "will" be banned in Iraq. You are still jumping to the conclusion that just because Sistani believes that chess violates Islam that he will insist that chess be banned in Iraq. There is simply insufficient e ...[text shortened]... earted argeement that it is a certainty that this is Sistani's personal position is irrational.

Can anyone explain why it is that chess is forbidden? Could it be that the Iyatollah has discovered that RHP forums are too subversive a force for freethinking? Are we at RHP somehow responsible for the Iraqi Shias now being deprived of chess?
Question:Why using of gold and silver dishes, forks, spoons and knifes is haram?
Answer:According to Islamic Sharia, eating and drinking liquid in gold and silver dishes is forbidden. It is not so important to know the reason or know not.
