Given that most threads in this forum tend to decline into tiresome bickerings between people who will never see eye-to-eye or move even one inch from their entrenched positions, would it be possible to set up a new forum for these pointless antics to be played out?

There are other threads here if you don't want to read the latest, and there are ten other forums to watch if you don't like this.

But I want to read 'Debates'. I want to see new topics are being *debated*; why should this forum be clogged by sterile slanging matches?

It's just no fun anymore.

I initially recommended your post because I agree that these bickerings are tiresome. However, I don't think having a separate forum is a good solution.

Instead, couldn't we somehow persuade both sides to drop it? I have two specific requests:

bbarr: You feel insulted, but it is clear that ivanhoe is not going to apologize. Could you please stop saying that you believe he should and let the matter drop? This will hopefully limit the number of pointless arguments over who said what in a forum that has been eliminated.

ivanhoe: You do not like the way bbarr has responded to your posts in the past. He has indicated that he will try to be less insulting, but you do not believe him. Could you please stop referring to his past posting and instead only address any problems you have with current posts? This will make it easier to get your point across to those of us that haven't read all of the threads in which you two have gone after each other.

I used to appreciate the debates between the two of you. You have very different debating styles and very different views, which is a good thing for fostering thought-provoking threads.

However, when it comes to the abortion issue, I would suggest that you both be a bit more sensitive. Some people believe that abortion is murder. Making fun of their views is counterproductive. Some people have had abortions. Calling them murderers or sinners is counterproductive.

I partially agree. However, the forum is not being 'clogged' as you suggest. There is nothing preventing you, me, Ivanhoe, or Bbarr from engaging in other debate (in fact, I am doing so on several other threads).

If you don't like a particular thread, I encourage you to skip it. If you don't feel that there is enough debating going on, start a new thread.

Start those *new* topics, Ivangrice, and I'm sure that people will jump right in and discuss them.

Such a forum already exists, although not at RHP, but you'll find all the regulars are there if you'd care to join them and post your nonsense there rather than here:

Hear hear. The person/group who/that makes a stab at moving the current situation forward will certainly get my respect.

Better yet, have a button that if enough DIFFERENT people hit it,
it would cast the full thread into the 'are too, are not' forum. As sort
of a punishment. A little reminder that the level of discussion has
sunk to a very low standard. Just a thought, but all it would take
would be a bunch of low lifes to defeat the purpose by sending
every topic and discussion there just for fun.

God no. Not ANOTHER forum.

As I've stated here, on Cribs' site and probably here again...what is needed is time.

T.I.M.E.

Give everything a little time and things will all come together.
NO, I'm not some sort of hippy, (although it has to be admitted that there is an above average amount of substances rushing through my veins as I type) but everybody is pressuring each other. That never works. People have to take a step backwards and eat kitkats.

Yes. It will work.

How much concern do American's have when allowing for the possibility that the balance of power is going to shift over the next 50 years whilst America continues to be perceived as an aggressor with suspect motives ?

This is a question about how the world will be when America no longer enjoys its current level of control and the world is short of diplomacy and full of weapons.

By diplomacy I mean a past and present where fair and peaceful outcomes have been negotiated.

Here's just one example why people need to consider the longer term consequences of their country's actions (beyond one politician's time in power) and why it is necessary for a major overhaul of foreign policy.

Those for suicide bombing in defence of Islam

Indonesia 27%
Pakistan 33%
Jordon 43%
Nigeria 47%
Lebanon 73%

This is just one example. However, this example also shows that there's more to be done than eliminating small fanatical groups.

(Sources: http://people-press.org/ and http://www.victorynewsmagazine.com/AmericaInEyesOfTheWorld.htm)

... and, at this turning point, which presidential candidate is better for the longer term viability of the world ?

hmmm... do we want people posting the exact same ideas over and over? This is at least the 3rd time I've seen this exact post!

If no one responded to a post the first time, or people lost interest and it fell off page 1, then there's a reason for this - it lost the fight of natural forum selection, survival of the most interesting. Isn't reposting things again and again forcing your opinion of what you think is important onto other people?
