Yes, the Florida state house district where Mar-a-Lago is located, which voted for Trump 54.6% to 44.0% (a +10.6 point margin) had a special election today, and it flipped from a Republican to a Democrat. This district hasn't been in Democratic hands in over 40 years, even during the times when Democrats had a commanding majority in the Florida state legislature. Overall it was something like a 12-point swing from R to D, which is pretty much in keeping with what has been observed since the Orange Offal blubbered back into the Oval Office with 49.8% of the popular vote (a "landslide" 🤣).
Oh yeah: another district in Florida also flipped to a Democrat today. As for Team R, no wins tonight. Not a one anywhere.

@Soothfast saidObviously it was Democratic cheating with those fake mail in votes (including one from Margo Largo).

@Soothfast saidI figured out the thing. The thing that explains almost all Republican behavior, including the choice to commit violence against random immigrants. They not only believe that Twitter is real life, but they believe that real life exists in order to create content that will play well on Twitter. The MAGA mindset is just like the mindset of an Instragram influencer, visit cool places, eat delicious foods, do amazing things not to do them but to take pictures of them and post them and turn it into likes and memes. Except Trump's not going to Belize he's committing war crimes, treason, and fraud.

The backlash is coming.
@wildgrass saidYup. Fox ran anything which would increase ratings as news. It's a post-truth world.

@moonbus saidI wish I could give more TU for this.
Uh, no, those would be the words of the profits.
In 1964, Paul Simon wrote:
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence"
"Sounds of Silence" on Simon & Garfunkel's album, Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.
Years later, in 1980, Neil Peart wrote:
One likes to believe
In the freedom of music
But glittering prizes
And endless compromises
Shatter the illusion
Of integrity
“For the words of the profits,
Are written on the studio wall,
Concert hall –
Echoes with the sounds…
Of salesmen.”
"Spirit of Radio" on Rush's album, Permanent Waves
@Soothfast saidDemocrats have flipped 32 seats so far around the country. Maggots 0. Love the Simon and Garfunkel reference.

More from here:
https://flvoicenews.com/jon-maples-loses-special-election-for-florida-house-district-87-as-democrat-emily-gregory-claims-victory/
Democrat Emily Gregory defeated Republican Jon Maples on Tuesday in a special election for Florida House District 87, flipping a coastal Palm Beach County seat that had been in Republican hands for decades and marking the first Democratic win in the district this century.
With nearly all votes counted, Gregory led with 51.19% to Maples’ 48.81%, a margin outside the threshold for an automatic recount, according to unofficial results. The narrow victory came despite the district’s recent Republican tilt: GOP incumbent Mike Caruso won re-election by 19 percentage points in 2024, and President Donald Trump carried the area by about 9 points that year.
The contest to replace Caruso, who resigned in August after his appointment as Palm Beach County clerk and comptroller, drew national attention as one of three legislative special elections in Florida. Republicans had poured significant resources into holding the seat, which stretches along the coast through Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Juno Beach, Hypoluxo and other communities, including Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach.
Gregory, a 40-year-old Jupiter small-business owner and Army spouse who runs a fitness center for pregnant and postpartum women, campaigned on increasing public education funding, expanding health care access and tackling rising property insurance and housing costs.
Maples, a 43-year-old financial planner and former Lake Clarke Shores town council member, emphasized cutting taxes and government spending, reducing regulations, expanding school choice and promoting private-sector job growth. He aligned closely with Republican priorities, including efforts to eliminate or reduce property taxes, and received endorsements from Trump, state Attorney General James Uthmeier and several GOP legislators.
The race featured heavy spending, with more than $1 million in combined cash and in-kind contributions. Maples benefited from nearly $184,000 in assistance from the Florida House Republican Campaign Committee and spent heavily on digital and television ads in the final weeks. Gregory raised about $176,000 directly, supplemented by in-kind support and outside groups, for a total nearing $325,000.
The seat had remained vacant for roughly seven months after Caruso’s departure, a delay that drew criticism and prompted Gregory to sue over voters’ lack of representation during the 2026 legislative session. Gov. Ron DeSantis called the election in late October.
Well, golly, if a Trump endorsement in a race in Trump's backyard for a candidate running on eliminating property taxes can't notch a win for Team MAGA, whatever is the world coming to?
I note that for some reason it's up to the Florida governor to allow a special election to occur. That doesn't sound normal, but certainly Ron DeSatan's attempt to keep the seat empty in perpetuity indicates that he knows Republicans are radioactive and likely to lose the district.
@Soothfast saidrepublicans are always at a disadvantage in special elections...the have to work

@Mott-The-Hoople saidYeah but Trump won that district by 19 points last time around. Don't kid yourself. Impeachment 3.0 could be right around the corner.

In any case take a look here:
https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2017/07/13/u-s-house-seats-rarely-flip-to-other-party-in-special-elections/
U.S. House seats rarely flip to other party in special elections
Of the 130 House special elections since 1987, only 21 (16😵 resulted in a seat changing from Republican to Democratic or vice versa – the last one nearly five years ago.
The article is almost 9 years old, to be sure; nonetheless what has been happening these past 14 months seems to be bucking a long-standing historical trend.
Frankly, the Iran fiasco, spiraling inflation, blatant war crimes and corruption, fascist thuggery on the streets, cold-turkey cut-off of health care subsidies (with absolutely no backup plan—we're still waiting, Rethugs!), the intensifying Epstein shitstorm, and on and on, I think the general election stands a chance of being even more brutal for the GOP than the special elections.
