Let's discuss the Dems' VP candidate. I am a Republican, and I will vote for Bush, but it appears this guy is going to be the country's next VP. I believe that is unfortunate, although I know many of you will disagree with such sentiments.

That being said, he brings a youthful vigor to the campaign of the corpse-like Kerry. In a debate with Cheney, Edwards is going to crush him, as his background of being a trial lawyer will allow him to present his case in a most persuasive and appealing fashion. Most people in this country vote for style over substance (I think you can agree with that whether you are a conservative or a liberal). He adds style to a campaign which I see sorely lacking otherwise.

Yet I cannot help but wonder about this man. Here in North Carolina, most polls show he would not be re-elected to the Senate. He has done very little for this state overall, and he is unpopular in many quarters. Despite that, his political ambitions have stretched beyond this state to the highest office in the land (although now he will have to settle for second best). That is a most odd set of circumstances.

His career has featured such distinguished credentials as extorting money from insurance companies (thus enriching himself tremendously while professing to be a champion of the little man), using junk science with no scientific or factual basis to win such jury awards, one term in the Senate with no previous political experience, potentially problematic charges of tax evasion, and a record of double-talk which would make his pal Kerry blush.

Politics sure is an odd profession. Let's hear what everyone thinks of this guy.

I agree. I think a man with a criminal conviction, a history of drug use, a military record of finding a safe little post and than going AWOL while others fought in the Vietnam war, and several failed business ventures in his past woud be a much better choice.
