Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition, went on TV Sunday morning, George Stephanopolous's show, and made the claim that judges were "worse than a few guys with beards who flew planes into buildings". Uh, any Christian out there want to defend his position?
LOL! You're a troublemaker, SQ. If I remember correctly you told me that you are Catholic. So go ahead and you defend Robertson's position. Better yet, Hitler was probably the most prominent raised-Catholic person of the last century. How about you defending his position?

That's not fair, I brought that up in the spiritual forum and got shouted down, you get a rec.

A new record for the fastest playing of the "Nazi card". Care to actually discuss the point raised concerning Pat Robertson's statements? He is a prominent supporter of this right-wing administration which is presently trying to change the long standing rules of the US Senate to get right-wing judges on the Federal bench. Don't you think that slightly more topical than Hitler (who may have been raised in a Catholic family but abandoned Catholicism in his youth; Pat, on the other hand, does presently own the Christian Broadcast Network).

He's famous in my country for slagging off our entire nation as "a dark country ... overrun by homosexuals". Given that we think he's utterly bonkers, an insult from him is taken as a token of pride by us. Perhaps the judges feel the same way?

Why should I defend Pat Robertson? I personally don't see anything Christ-like in his statements. Anyone can use the word Christian to describe himself, just as anyone can change his self-description from a "Killer of Innocents" to a "Santifier of Life". Perhaps Robertson is just a "professional" Christian. Why would anyone automatically expect Christians to defend Robertson?

Not really. I wouldn't go as far as he did but our judicial system is quite flawed today.

My brother is a police officer who has arrested a few drug dealers in his day and many of them laughed about it because they knew they would be back on the streets and at it again in no time.

I see a problem with situations like this. I would say that drug dealers probably kill more people than the terrorists did on 9/11 but it's not even in the same ballpark and shouldn't be compared.

Pat Robertson doesn't speak for Catholics, and he certainly doesn't speak for me. Hitler? Cammahn. If you're going to bait me, Del, put something on the hook I'm likely to take a bite at. And this being Holocaust Remembrance Week, too. Odd timing, eh? Besides - Catholicism wasn't what defined him. Madness was.
LOL! You evidently did take a bite, SQ. I'm sure Pat Robertson doesn't speak for Catholics, but what makes you think he speaks for "Christians"?

He's founder of the Christian Coalition, Del! The CC is one of the most powerful lobbying groups in the country! They've got offices in every state, they've got alot of money and whole bunches of members! Even the GOP has come out and said that the RNC has been hijacked by the Christian Coalition. He speaks for a big damn lot of them!
He doesn't speak for me, SQ. I think he's a "professional" Christian. Just a bit too much ego and self-promotion in old Pat to suit me.

Surely PR pays income tax? Or does he get by as a church?
