Wow, the Republican Congressman from Michigan says Trump has "committed impeachable offenses":

“Contrary to Barr’s portrayal, Mueller’s report reveals that President Trump engaged in specific actions and a pattern of behavior that meet the threshold for impeachment,” Amash wrote, arguing that lawmakers have become too afraid of using impeachment to deter presidential misconduct.

“Impeachment, which is a special form of indictment, does not even require probable cause that a crime (e.g., obstruction of justice) has been committed; it simply requires a finding that an official has engaged in careless, abusive, corrupt, or otherwise dishonorable conduct,” Amash wrote.

---------------------------------------------------------

While impeachment should be undertaken only in extraordinary circumstances, the risk we face in an environment of extreme partisanship is not that Congress will employ it as a remedy too often but rather that Congress will employ it so rarely that it cannot deter misconduct,” Amash said. “Our system of checks and balances relies on each branch’s [sic] jealously guarding its powers and upholding its duties under our Constitution. When loyalty to a political party or to an individual trumps loyalty to the Constitution, the Rule of Law — the foundation of liberty — crumbles.”

Too little, too late.

Why is it too late?

The democrats can still impeach Trump, and if what they have insisted was true, that Trump is a puppet of Putin, they have a responsibility to remove him from office due to national security reasons.

But alas, Pelosi has already said that she has not intention of doing so.

Very telling.

Because Trump should never have been allowed to run for political office.

That makes no sense.

Again, if he is really a threat to national security then he needs to be removed.

His good buddy Mitch McConnell doesn't think so.

Exactly.

They don't believe that they can get a conviction -- because they can't. It's simply not a scoring argument.

They aren't going to do it because it would look like the Democrats just waged legal warfare for 4 years against the Trump administration and were witch hunting the President. It'd make loads of more people sympathetic to his cause and motivated to vote for him in 2020.

Now it just looks like they only witch hunted him right up until the next election cycle, which appears to be the case.

I think that they will turn this on again even if they beat him in 2020 -- not necessarily with the goal of scoring a literal legal victory (as that appears to be quite impossible unless it is trumped up (pun intended) obstruction of justice charges), but solely to shore up the conspiracy narrative they have been fully committed to in the media since the Trump victory.
