No not really, it was a German king and lots of Scottish Welsh and Ulster born men in those red coats not to mention George’s Hessian countrymen. There were even some American loyalists.
It’s more complicated the ‘the English’ and the overall war was a Britain versus France affair with North America being just one theatre

We were allies with the French. Lafeyette was a bonafide American hero, he fought in the Continental Army and rose to major-general before the Siege of Yorktown.

I agree with the slavery and apartheid thing, though. Jefferson got it right by invoking natural law, but quite a few after him missed that bus.
