But Obama actually came across as a right-wing hack in some of budget negotiations, though maybe that is a little strong and he was just being realistic. But presidents like Obama and Clinton do not seem to be true liberals to me.

One nuance is that since Reagan, labeling and perception of the political spectrum has been shifted, and defintitions and labels are now different. For example, a person who moderately leans left is labeled as a socialist. Or a person who leans right or even significantly right is labeled as middle-of-the road.
