Near the end of the summer last year, he was assassinated. I had never heard of Charlie Kirk prior to his death, though I did hear about Turning Point (which he founded) because I used to be Christian.
Two issues:
1) I kept hearing after his death that he was a misogynist, racist, etc. I tried for a long time to find his most offensive comments and honestly couldn't find anything that extreme. Based on what I could find, he seemed like a fairly considerate person who at least tried to be fair-minded and ethical during debates.
So for those who thought Kirk was on the level of stereotypical MAGA: what has he said that could be considered offensive? I'm trying to understand what could motivate someone to actually want to kill him.
2) For those who agree with him:
Kirk was murdered while defending the 2nd Amendment. His last words were defending gun rights. Here a statement Kirk made prior to that tragic day:
https://www.npr.org/transcripts/nx-s1-5538464
I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year, so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God given rights.
Doesn't that give you pause in any way? And I'm NOT talking about ending gun rights, I mean as far as objection to stricter laws banning assault weapons, enforcing background checks, preventing certain convicted criminals from owning them, etc.
In light of Kirk's death: shouldn't his words be reevaluated?

He told Taylor Swift to submit to her husband which was obnoxious. He openly endorses the "white replacement theory" in which he identifies being American as being white.

Enough said.

"Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, faced extensive accusations of racism due to several controversial statements regarding Black professionals, civil rights legislation, and demographic trends. His comments frequently targeted Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies, affirmative action, and prominent Black figures. The primary remarks that led critics and civil rights groups to label him a racist include😕tatements on Black Professionals and Affirmative ActionComments on Black Pilots: In January 2024, Kirk questioned the qualifications of Black pilots while criticizing corporate diversity initiatives. He stated, "If I see a Black pilot, I'm going to be like, boy, I hope he's qualified". Critics noted this undermined the accomplishments of Black professionals by implying they only achieved their roles through diversity mandates.Comments on High-Profile Black Women: In July 2023, Kirk targeted former First Lady Michelle Obama, MSNBC host Joy Reid, and Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. He claimed they were affirmative action picks who "do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously" and had to "steal a white person's slot".Rhetoric on Race, Demographics, and CrimePromotion of the "Great Replacement" Theory: Kirk frequently warned his audience about demographic shifts in the United States, framing immigration as a deliberate plot. He claimed that a "great replacement strategy" was actively underway to "replace white rural America with something different" and asserted that the Democratic Party "love it when America becomes less white".Generalizations About Race and Crime: During a May 2023 broadcast of The Charlie Kirk Show, he made broad claims about urban crime, stating that "prowling Blacks go around for fun to go target white people, that's a fact".Criticism of Civil Rights Figures and LawsCritiques of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Act: Kirk openly criticized the legacy of the Civil Rights movement. He described the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964—which outlawed segregation and employment discrimination—as a "mistake" and characterized Civil Rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. as "awful".Describing George Floyd: Following the national reckoning over police brutality, Kirk repeatedly disparaged George Floyd, notably traveling near the site of Floyd's murder to call him a "scumbag" and dismiss public mourning surrounding his death.Counterarguments and DefenseKirk and his defenders consistently denied accusations of racism. They argued that his statements were not attacks on individuals based on their race, but rather an unfiltered, merit-based critique of DEI policies, affirmative action, and progressive identity politics. Kirk maintained that his organization, Turning Point USA, rejected white supremacy and pointed to minority leadership summits hosted by the group as evidence of inclusivity."

This is just some of the crap he was pushing into the minds of our youth at colleges, and in supposed Christian youth teachings. He always used Christ as his cloak for his bs also.

I was always "anti-Kirk" because of these disgusting things he's said, long, long before he was shot. I always said that Turning Point USA existed mainly to funnel money to Trump and others. It had damned little to do with being an actual, bona-fide Christian.
Plenty of people in this country have been "canceled" over comments they made about Kirk. Very few of them ever said he should have been shot, or they were glad he got shot or anything. They were against him, and that was enough. Plenty of them lost their jobs over pushback against Kirk.
Even I got a thread deleted (and was in danger of being banned) because of things I said about Kirk. What nobody seemed to understand was that I was making these "what a POS" comments long before he was killed. Of course he did not deserve to be shot. But no one does.
Here's a thread I opened at the time.

Thank you both.
Theory: I think in the immediate aftermath of his death, many online outlets were hesitant to have negative articles about him, especially after Kimmel's show was (for a short time) cancelled.
I'm usually pretty good about finding stuff like what you both and ATY posted, but I got nothing like this. I only found debates involving him where the clips made him look like a reasonable man open to honest debate.
@suzianne - If you were nearly banned just for criticizing him, that lends to my theory.

If we would have said that Joy Reid and Michelle Obama and Sheila Jackson Lee and Ketanji Brown Jackson were affirmative action picks, we would have been called racists. Now they’re coming out and they’re saying it for us … You do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously. You had to go steal a white person’s slot to go be taken somewhat seriously.

Reevaluated? Why? Is his kicking the bucket make them any less sexist/racist/homophobic?
And for those that didn't see what his words are while he was alive, why would his passing change their minds

Did you only look on the turning point website? Fox news archive? because in any debate if you let him talk long enough he would inevitably say something horrible.
What do you think is reasonable? Someone saying vile stuff without saying naughty words or raising the tone of his voice?
I am honestly puzzled how someone who is earnestly looking for "Charlie says vile crap" can't find anything. Unless you did see those clips but you agreed with and didn't find any fault in them

People should not be shot. The mere fact I’m saying this is proof your society’s broken.
If he was shot whilst defending gun rights… it’s hysterical. I still don’t think he should be shot, it is the kind of base irony that tickles my funny bone.
