Should this be a sackable offence?
There’s a story running in the the UK about the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, who has lied on her published CV about her work experience.
She has previously claimed that she worked for the Bank of Scotland as an “Economist” for 10 years, a claim which she has cited many times in the build up to the UK election in the summer and also around the time of the budget. However her manager at the time has called her out over her claims and it turns out that she wasn’t an Economist and she didn’t work for the Bank of Scotland, she was admin support in the complaints department of a retail bank called Halifax and only for 6 years not 10. Reeves has since changed her online CV to reflect this.
Reeves is Chancellor of the Exchequer and has lied to the Labour Party and to the British people. One could rightly question whether she is fit for the job and whether she has the personal integrity to be in a position of high power in government. Of course Labour and Starmer in particular have lied their way into power anyway so this is not really a surprise.
The video in this article is from Prime Ministers Questions in Parliament and is quite amusing. The test provides political context.

@divegeester saidI think 14 years of tory rule is what got Labour elected.
Should this be a sackable offence?

As for CV’s… how dumb do you have to be as a politician to lie on them? Like that’s never gonna come out or something?
@shavixmir saidVery true; Labour’s “loveless landslide” is evidence of that and the Tories are now lame ducks.

Also true, how stupid do you have to be to lie on your CV. And these are whopper lies not just a little massaging of a few months or some project responsibilities. Where I worked in the corporate world faking one’s job history was a sackable offence.
Given the ludicrous economy bending budget she has just delivered I think she should be fired. Unfortunately we are relying on the Reverend Starmer for this and he’s Liar-in-Chief himself.
I’ve added a link for reference in my OP ππΌ
@divegeester saidWell, to point out the obvious, it’s a politician.

Her CV doesn’t matter one iota. She’s elected.
If you’re talking jobs, then yes, I don’t think people should lie on their CV’s. I’ve been told that everybody embellishes their CV’s. Not me. Never.
But then again, my CV obviously reads like a Bond movie, mixed with Star Wars and 70’s porn. Who the hell wouldn’t want to hire me!
What is an issue with a politician getting caught in a lie, is integrity.
This being said, point to a politician who doesn’t lie and I’ll point to the jug of whisky you’ve just drunk.
Not that I think politicians should lie. Absolutely not. Hence my dislike of the lot of them.
Unless it’s comedy, I only read summaries of what they’re up to. I just can’t listen to them directly anymore.
@shavixmir saidShe wasn’t “elected” to the position of Chancellor.

Yes all politicians lie, but the utter shat-show of this Government, the now floundering economy, taxed highest for 40 years, growth down, inflation up, debt up, loony tunes policies. She’s in charge of public finance, she’s causing the problems and she’s lied about being an “economist”. This will haunt Labour for their entire time in power, unless Starmer cuts her loose early on, which he will have considered as he’s a ruthless treacherous liar himself.
And look at this ….
Labour approval rating the biggest drop of any UK government in history, Starmer less popular than Liz Truss and Rushi Sunak, Nigel Farage now has the highest approval on ANY party leader in the UK. And we’ve got 4.5 more years of this horror show.

Would you mind elaborating on the 70s porn bit on your cv - just asking for a fellow RHP member who is interested

@divegeester saidPhotos of my moustache, chest hair and gold medallion are state secrets.
Please, I could do with cheering up π
I was classified as too sexy for civilian consumption.
@Ponderable saidDear me you seem to be upset with Reform UK.
Lying on a CV is dumb any way.
Maybe you look also for someone from the Tories and someone from the Farage Clown Club to support a balanced view.
According to Ipsos today Nigel Farage has the highest approval rating of any UK political party leader.
Must be his ‘unicycling while juggling’ circus act which is pulling in the votes π
