A couple of years ago, or a year ago er' whatever -- several people here at RHP were giving me a bad time because I called Manhattan an Island.
It took me a while to remember to reply, but here is the map.

Use the N-S-E-W compass on the right to work south out of Harlem to see the river on the east of the island.
If you now google "manhatttan map" you MIGHT get "manhattan kansas". <GRIN> Manhattan Island is the correct terminology.

It was an Island when the Manhattan Indians permitted the Dutch to build there in exchange for some beads; it was an island when the sewage in East River was aflame; it is an island every time the cops fish a body out of the Harlem River.

It's good to know we are making progress as to "Geography".
Too damned bad the schools have ruined the meaning of the word.
Did you know that in traditional "Geography" one learns the politics, disposition of the populace, economy of region and the 'effect of topology' on economy?
Our "modern" system destroyed that because it was too dangerous to "know". If you are trying to build a commie planet.
