Once an Amrican hero for hitting 70 home runs in one year, what have you become, Mark McGwire? Now retired, he showed up for congressional hearigs today and refused to answer questions. He did make a statement, but when asked questions he simply said he would not answer on the advice of his lawyer. What a bozo.

The vast majority of pro athletes use steroids. Carl Lewis was 'clean' for years, yet they take the medal from Ben Johnson...

Sosa's bat is corked... so what ? It's commonly accepted that most pro athletes are on the strong stuff, don't let it get to ya.

I agree...

Where is the line between legal drug use and illegal drug use (in
sports)?

What I mean is, if vitamins are ok, then are protein shakes ok? If
they are ok, then why not other performance enhancers? If they are
ok, then why not steroids?

What is the technical, logical line for determining if a new product is
or is not permissible from the sports standpoint?

I think the technical, logical line is that if you have to lie about it and have a lawyer by your side to coach you, I can't tell any difference between these behaviors and those of your average junkie who can afford a lawyer.

I don't know. Unless there are two conservative black guys on the internet who have the same pic of a certain redneck blonde with my favorite "rev' as their avatar.

Hey give me credit here. I am doin' my best to break every taboo that the village can throw at me!

So as to make a bigger point. I hope. Sigh... Five months down the line.

Ever notice that people are really slow to learn when it comes to taboo?

I doubt it. A lumberjack like him has not the rhythm to be black. It's just jack, back whack... jack, back whack...

No rhythm.

Besides... He chews tobaccy and spits into crowds. <giggle>

snark. <edit> Sorry Mike. I take humor as a gift from God!!! If you must pay, then so be it.

My question is why is congress sticking their noses into the matter to begin with. While I don't agree with the use of steroids the drugs were not illegal at the time and if I was in their position as a professional athlete and the use of steroids got me a bigger paycheck i would be tempted to use them also. Congress should fix real problems with the country and mind their own damn business.
Let's explore this point for a second.

Why is Congress doing this, in all seriousness? What is their justification for this
inquiry? Were these players subpeonaed and under oath? What is the context for
this investigation?

#1 where are you?
