Because he’s so extreme the only vote he’s going to garner is the hard core trump base and that’s not nearly enough to beat the democrat candidate. The base may just have cost the gop the governorship.

Don't you know? Everybody in the whole world knows everything about all levels of USA politics, because they're important! But nobody in Europe understands anything about USA politics, because they're exceptional and our newspapers lie about them!

There is an old saying.
When America sneezes, the world catches cold.

With the rise of countries like China and India, that may be less apparent.

While Europeans and Canadians (me) can't vote in US elections, what happens there affects all of us.

We are not shareholders (voters).
But we are stakeholders.
