i believe the money machine destrys democracy.
the politicians use money to advertise and pork-barrel and bribe us into voting for them.

why not just make the richest b@&$!@&d the king?
Originally posted by aging blitzerI agree, that is why I am not registered as a Democan or Republocrat. Most people in the US feel that that is it. They don't realize that, at least on a non-Presidential level, the Greens have a very viable party. The Liberetarians are growing as well.
wellll, probably only when they become so large as to be able to abuse their power.
What also annoys me is how many people think that the US is a democracy.
A democracy is:
A democracy is direct government ruled by the majority
A republic is:
A Republic is representative government ruled by law (the Constitution)

I believe that democracy like communism will only work as the general idea. Once the politicians are corrupted there is no way to get back the real idea about THE PEOPLE and their influence.
Besides what really kills democracy is the overruling by making too many laws.
The German Tax Law is a good example. IMHO the best thing to do is burn it.
Once the honour for serving your country as a politician and doing the will of the people is replaced with greed and money interest the chaos starts. Out of this chaos the people loose their feeling for what to do not because its against the law or against the ethics. Everybody gets greedy then.

Well the fairest way to get a demorcasy would be if anyone who wanted to enter into it could and they got the same amount of money to fund there party also the same amount of airtime on tv etc...
Also a better system on voteing would be if you can vote for as many candidates as you wish but only once for each candidte therefor you could vote for all the left partys or just one party. Or if there was a party you are strongly opposed to all but that party if you thought all the others were ok..
The main problem with the current system is that if you don't like the main party there is nothing at all you can do to change it.

I agree with you that there must be financial reform to the election process, levelling the playing ground for those without a rich daddy.

There can be no true democracy without legal and economic equality. When people talk about the money machine in the narrow sense of the party machine, it's worth remembering that our entire society is a money machine. Only a system as sick as the West could consider equality of opportunity an unnecessary prerequisite for its precious meritocracy.
Originally posted by flexmoreIt is a well known and documented fact that the CIA has influenced the politics of other nations by simply bank-rolling the party they wish to win. In almost all cases they have been successfull. This shows that elections can and do get won by money and the CIA and the US government know this.

The CIA has also helped a number of dictators to win through monetary support.
Although I dont believe that any government is truely democratic, I would still prefer to live in a country that has regular elections to living in a country with a dictatorship.
