So I'm reading the Economist and I come across an article that says one day we will grow meat in a vat -- whole mountains of the stuff -- and it will be healthier for you and animals won't have to suffer, etc.
Two questions:
If you are a vegetarian who practices for "moral" reasons, would this development cause you to change your dietary ha ...[text shortened]... as grown in pool of nutrient broth rather than chased down and killed on the African veldt?

i think we kinda drifted from the subject. maybe the problem is:
does it matter where your meat comes from? do you care where your meat comes from? i am not even adding "as long as it is healthy" to the previous question because we all know that is not an issue.
But as you say, if meat were to be 'grown' and it was exactly like the genuine article, then yes, I would fill my cancerous bowels with it.
Edit: There is always the argument that it may have health ramifications etc, but the way I see it, the meat on the table at the moment, is full of steroids, carcinogens etc anyway, so I'm all for it. bring on the cabage meat.
oh for heavens sake i was just making a point that nutrients are nutrients no matter where you get them. do you think it is meat in that lame mcdonalds hamburger? it tastes like... actually it has no taste. how much meath and from what animals does that meat come from.
canibalism is wrong. it is wrong. no, i am not joking, it is wrong.
but if two friends get stuck in a cave with nothing to eat, and one dies(with no contribution from the other) then it is right for the live one to eat the dead to survive. screw the moral, one must do anything to survive. the live one didn't killed the other one, he simply uses some materials the dead one doesn't needs. kinda like organ doning. if it is alright to chop someone up and use his organs to save people, then it must be alright for that person in the cave to eat his friend.
here. be revolted. but think for just a second.

we imbibe our food wtih substances that are know to provoke cancer. we eat junk food when we know each bag o'chips and each hamburger shortens our life(but boy do they taste good)
in my opinion, democracy should be applied here. if democracy is"i can do what the hell i want as long as i don't hurt anyone" then in this case you are hurting yourself. for that matter one may go as far as to ban cigarettes, most fast food etc. and to introduce alchohol rations.
so food grown in a vat might bo just what the doctor ordered. of course it would have to be without any flavours(they are no good) without salt or any spices and sugar free. so it won't be the chips killing you, it will be the lack of taste.
