Given Merkel's remarkable accomplishment of leading Europe of of a potentially crippling financial crises and guiding Germany to be one the most financially successful nations, among other accomplishments, could she be the greatest European leader of the 2000s (so far)?

Russia ain’t no Europe.
And Putin is anything but bloody great.

Actually, Putin is a lot like trump. Only KGB trained, fit and competent.

I would say so.
The German leadership has been very professional since the reunification. And that was a massive bloody undertaking in itself. And Merkel played her part there too.

Extremely competent.
She’s from the centre-right of politics (so not my cup of tea), but sweet Jesus, did she ever see the larger picture!

And talking about pictures. This one just sums it up:

I can go along with that. I wish she was running our country.

She showed that she is great by announcing to step down and follow through with it, even though it was quite clear that most Germans would have had her rather than Laschet or Scholz (or Baerbock).

Good job she never ran for the office of President or prime minister of Greece then.
It’s not a national leaders job to be popular in another country. It’s not Merkels fault that the one size fits all European economic model doesn’t work in Greece, it barely works in France.
I can see why Merkel didn’t think it was the German taxpayers job to bail out Southern Europe every 10 yrs or so.
