Missing F-35 military jet wanted

From the link below:

"Military expert and former British military officer Frank Ledwidge told Newsweek the F-35 "could likely travel hundreds of miles without its pilot."

"Historically, an aircraft without a pilot can fly a long way on autopilot," added Frederik Mertens, a military analyst with the Hague Center for Security Studies."

I thought pilots were supposed to eject from a jet because it was in danger of crashing. And why would it be on auto pilot if it was in danger of crashing? If a jet is not flying right aren't pilots supposed to take manual control before ejecting?

What if it was stolen and is safe and sound some place?

@Metal-Brain
Well OBVIOUSLY it was taken over by Aliens studying our technology.

Stop being stupid

Pilot said it was a mishap. No explanation what that mishap was. Maybe the idiot spilled coffee on himself and accidentally ejected himself out of the most expensive stealth fighter the US has while on autopilot. I'm kidding, but it must have been something really embarrassing if they will not say.

That pilot's ass is grass.

Bow, I see here that a stock F-35 costs $150 million, but the Marines have a F-35B version that costs $250 million.
Either way, a lot of money to just let the jet go on autopilot.

bounce him right out of the corps

Iran snatched one of our drones. Maybe they got this too?

Next TV ad from Lockheed Martin:

It's so stealth our own military can't find it.

I heard they were down in the carolinas asking for anonymous tips using a hotline. 1800-FIND-JET. The most advanced military in the world.

I guess now they've found the wreckage we'll need to take our speculation in a whole new direction, like who shot it down?

Probably just ran out of fuel or the auto pilot turned up for work drunk and pranged the plane into a cloud with a mothership hiding out inside.
The possibilities are endless

You said that before they found it. What's changed?

Google ‘stealth’ 🙄 and apparently this one was extra stealthy after modification

@Earl-of-Trumps
I was wondering if he would be getting a court martial. It depends on what went wrong with the plane. Maybe he had a problem that would have stopped him from landing. But they may say he should have tried to ditch the plane in a field or some such. Bottom line is we can't pass judgement, that is up to the military. We don't know much of any of the facts behind the mishap. For instance, we don't know what communications he had before he jumped, he may have been TOLD to jump, but we don't know.

Could have been a malfunction due to manufacturer error or improper maintainance. Not necessarily the pilots fault.

Now you're onto it.

It is in the "strong rumor" stage but they are now hinting at the craft having been hacked.

You're right, I spoke too quickly.
When I saw that the plane did not crash right away, I thought that the pilot's bail-out was wrongful. we'll see.
