Mitch McConnell reveals his inner thoughts on Trump's presidency in a biography soon to be published. Excerpts follow.

quote:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Mitch McConnell said after the 2020 election that then-President Donald Trump was “stupid as well as being ill-tempered,” a “despicable human being” and a “narcissist,” according to excerpts from a new biography of the Senate Republican leader that will be released this month.

McConnell said Trump is “stupid as well as being ill-tempered and can’t even figure out where his own best interests lie.”

Trump was also holding up a coronavirus aid package at the time, despite bipartisan support. “This despicable human being,” McConnell said in his oral history, “is sitting on this package of relief that the American people desperately need.”

On Jan. 6, ... McConnell was holed up in a secure location with other congressional leaders, calling Vice President Mike Pence and military officials for reinforcements as Trump supporters stormed the Capitol. Once the Senate resumed debate over the certification of Biden’s victory, McConnell said in a speech on the floor that “this failed attempt to obstruct the Congress, this failed insurrection, only underscores how crucial the task before us is for our republic.”

The next month, McConnell gave his harshest public criticism of Trump on the Senate floor, saying he was “ practically and morally responsible ” for the Jan. 6 attack. Still, McConnell voted to acquit Trump after House Democrats impeached him for inciting the riot.

Trump ”has every characteristic you would not want a president to have,” McConnell said in an oral history at the time, and was “not very smart, irascible, nasty.”

McConnell said in his oral history that Trump’s behavior since losing the election had been “beyond erratic” as he kept pushing false allegations of voter fraud. “Unfortunately, about half the Republicans in the country believe whatever he says,” McConnell said.

I hold McConnell responsible much of the debacle which Trump hath wrought. McConnell had it in his power to ratify the first impeachment; it would not have cost Republicans the WH, as Pence would have assumed the presidency.

McConnel helped Trump get elected and worked to prevent him from being removed by impeachment. McConnel was there to defend Trump at every turn. Now he wants to make money by trashing him?

McConnel was proudly corrupt without any morals. Who cares what he thinks about anyone.

I'm really getting tired of all these self-righteous Republican cowards. They didn't stand up to Trump when mattered but now want you to make money by feigning moral high-ground.

I'm pretty sure we'll see Ted Cruz, Tucker Carlson, Ron Desantis and a bunch of other spineless GOP whores trying to make money in the same way.

It's a cult of personality, and Pence has none.

Remove the head and the snake dies. That is why they refused to out him.

Plus, McConnell allowed Trump to have 3 SC picks, one stolen from Obama. This resulted in a corrupt Supreme Court since Alito and Thomas were already there. He should get at least as much notoriety as Trump for flipping Roe v Wade.

Just wait till he loses the election (again): they’ll all kick him when he’s down and out. Spineless cowards they be. They don’t care what crimes he commits in office, but a two-time loser they cannot abide.

He probably had midterms, local elections in mind. The donald is used as a bait to draw in support for random ghouls for whatever offices.

They lost in the midterms wherever they made abortion a central issue and the donald wasn't enough.

They absolutely deserve what they got.

Yes, I agree, hence has no charisma, but he was controllable. I remember after the first impeachment, McConnell saying he thought Trump would be humbled and more controllable; McConnell was wrong. Trump was emboldened and got worse.
