I'm a bleeding-heart liberal -- of course I care! Question is -- so what?

In Dubai I'd see much less poverty. I might forget that it exists! Would that be good for my survival instincts?

I see Dubai and Sandton as being advanced exponents of insulated modular living for professionals. Tint your car windows and you won't even notice the b ...[text shortened]... (Thankfully for security-conscious Sandtonites, bullet-proof windscreens are now available).
Would your stomach endure living in Sandton? It's not the sight of poverty that makes me queasy, but the attitude* of the rich living in such places.

No, it wouldn't. Death by boredom ... a slow, suffocating extinction. Of course, there isn't much poverty to be seen in Sandton -- although its twin suburb Alexandria is close by.

'Prepotence' exists but is seldom used. 'Superior attitude', 'superiority', I guess.

Were they being held against their will under threat of force? If so then they might be called slaves, and I don't see anyone defending that. People like to exaggerate, throw the word around, be emotive and work themselves into a self righteous froth. The over-use and abuse of the word detracts from actual cases of slavery.

As for exploitation, my employer exploits me, and I am thankful for that.
